“Second to none.”
Reviewed 16 May 2012

We went to Leh, Ladakh from 28 Apr 12 to 01 May 12 and stayed over at Kidar Guest House for all nights. Upon arrival from the airport, we were taken to our rooms and instructed to rest and acclimatise. Kidar mama (we didn't catch her name), Jigmet and Dolkar were there to welcome us in person. Throughout the four nights stay, we had couple of requests for hot shower, additional blankets (it snowed the following morning), meals provided as and when we requested for it and bottled water. There was hot tea on demand i.e. Chai and Mint tea and there was this one night when we had the best soup a la tomate we ever had. Nothing can quite fully describe the hospitality and the warmth of the folks at Kidar Guesthouse. Things to note are that there weren't any wifi (it's not that critical really, we're on a vacation) and in house heating system (you can ask for extra blankets), wifi would probably have been fixed by now.
This other morning, we had request for extra toilet rolls and ended up having a little fun by asking Dolkar to throw it up to the balcony (where we were at), it was pretty hilarious! Kidar grandpapa always greet us in his high-spirited and animated version of "Julley!" even though he couldn't understand half the english we spoke (He can speak basic Hindi).
It is in a very safe neighbourhood and we found kidar through the reccomendation of our very outstanding guide Stanzin Namgyal (there are tons of stanzins around in ladakh!), He's contactable at infohotel@hotelyarabtso.com and he has a facebook account too (: He stays in Nubra Valley and would probably be the best person to bring you around from Leh! He charges very very reasonably too and is flexible with his tour itinerary. Point to note: Set aside 2 days in Leh before going to Nubra Valley or Pangong Lake. We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during this trip.
Ladakh is an amazing place, there is an abundance of humanity around here and it's truly a home away from home :D

We have just returned from a 6 day trip to Leh and stayed in Kidar Guest House located at Lower Tukcha, Fort Road, LEH.
Kidar Guest House is run by a family and Mr. Jigmet, the young guy is really a fantastic person. This guesthouse is one of the best deals I've gotten in the recent past. Jigmat's father also provide me DIOMOX tablet when i was getting problem in breathing on the very first day. It was a "home away from home" kind of experience for us. The hospitality of the Guest house was awesome.
we are going back to stay with them a few more days once more in the near future!

We have just returned from a 5 day trip to leh and stayed in Kidar Guest House. It was an incredible experience staying with the Kidar family. Ambience, food, hospitality is something that makes a place perfect to stay in and Kidar Guest House has it all. Would love to stay there everytime we visit Ladakh. It was a "home away from home" kind of experience for us.

Room Tip: Choose the Family room if you are a group. One can also choose the rooms in their new wing which is...

Nice friendly place with a good garden, good views. Only concern is it's about a 10min walk from the market, which is difficult to do on the 1st day. Food is pretty good, hosts are warm and helpful, but I could do the same with a little less money. But a nice place all in all.

Kidar is run by a family and Jigmet is the guy who we spoke to when we were booking this place. This guesthouse is one of the best deals I've gotten in the recent past. The location is nice, about a mile away from the local market..The quilts there are to die in :)

Jigmet's father also dropped us to the market a few times- a wonderful gesture when we were dead tired and did not feel like walking to the market for dinner. They also serve food here. You just have to tell them before hand. All in all a great stay. I would definitely come back here

Room Tip: the newly constructed block did not have telly in them.
