Raina is a common surname of Kashmiri Pundits. As the name suggest it would have been one of the residents of Kashmiri Pundits before their mass exodus. History lovers may find something interesting here. I crossed this area while going to Hazratbal Dargah.

Very nice area and famous area of Srinagar. It is 7km from old city Srinagar and 12km from heart of Srinagar Lal Chowk area. The attraction is the very old houses made of wood only and that from famous Walnut wood. The unique design and look of each and every house is awesome. It connects road to 2-3areas of srinagar

This used to be a very attractive, bustling town, strongly influeced by Hindu culture. Nowadays it is better to avoid it. The once nice canal is the "cloaca maxima" of Srinagar, really sad to see how the people throw all waste and sewage into this water. A shikara (gondola) ride through the canal was once an attraction, today it must be avoided. Not attractive any more...
