One really gets the energy to climb the 250 appx stairs to visit the Shankaracharya Hill to get the holy Darshan of the temple. The experience is very fulfilling. We had excellent Darshan and a lovely experience going up the hill.

This temple is situated on top a hill as the name suggests. There is a CRPF check post just at the entry point of the hill, where we have to disembark from the car and consent to a frisking, and they will look inside your vehicle. Then there is a 20 minute drive up to the top of the hill. Then we have to climb 285 steps to reach the shrine of Lord Shiva. The climb is worth the effort, cos the view is breathtaking, and the place is so serene as all places of worship should be.

My God, This place has peace all over it. First the climb to the hilltop in the car, then a ten minute climb of the stairs, there you go.. The most wonderful place in the whole of Srinagar is this temple, and now we understand how the great saint Shankarcharya meditated here coz its so breathtaking.

The highlight is that you can have a complete 360 degree view of srinagar from the top. There is the Shiva linga in the mandir and the army people give the prasad. I shall never forget my visit to this mandir.

Bam Bam Bhole!
