“Escape from the dust and madness!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2011

I chose the Oberoi Gurgaon due to its location to the airport. I had a hard time deciding between the new Oberoi and the trusty Trident (see my earlier review), and in the end the Oberoi representative on the phone convinced me to try out the new hotel. FYI - if you're trying to choose between the Trident and Oberoi Gurgaon, the rooms at the Trident are much smaller than similar class of rooms at the Oberoi. The Trident will likely be cheaper as well (at the time of my booking, it was about $40 USD cheaper than the Oberoi).

I was not disappointed. The Oberoi Gurgaon is situated around massive water bodies of sitting on exquisite royal blue tile. I think of this hotel as a "daytime" hotel as the view changes dramatically from day to night. I happen to prefer the way the hotel looks in the daytime with the water sitting in the royal blue tiled pools vs. in the evening when the water is flambé! Grab a drink in the Piano Bar before the sun goes down.

I had a room facing inward towards the water and the restaurant. I loved the shade feature the rooms have - when you leave the room, the shades go down to keep the room cool, and they're great to blackout the sunshine if you care to sleep past sunrise.

The staff was very accommodating, thoughtful and helpful. I enjoyed room service and 361, the multi-cuisine restaurant. I tried booking a massage at the spa but called too late as they were fully booked (be sure to call in advance to get your spot). I didn't use the gym but did take a look and the size is quite large for a hotel gym, and their equipment was all very new and up-to-date.

I only stayed for one night and have absolutely zero complaints. The Oberoi Gurgaon is sleek, elegant and provided me with a much needed peaceful night's rest before heading out on my next adventure. Bravo, Oberoi!

Stayed at the Oberoi for five days. Wow what a hotel! I would struggle to find a fault with this hotel. It is luxurious, stunning decor, attentive friendly staff, fantastic spacious room with every amnetiy you could want (apart from an iron but a pressing service is available a slight inconvenience if you are in an hurryand want to iron your own shirt). Food excellent. luxury, luxury, luxury! Would have no hesitation reocmmending this hotel.

This place is so new that the taxi driver didn't know where it was (it's next to the Trident at Gurgaon). It is a bit confusing when you land up on the driveway and send your bags through the x-ray, as there is an entrance that leads to other parts of the hotel next to it and not the reception. So ask for the reception. The checkin process is slightly different as there is no huge checkin counter, but two desks inside a room. A staffer accompanies you to your room - good because you need help to navigate the place. The staffer checks you in, in the room in fact. It would help if he insisted on holding your luggage for you, as there are long corridors to get to your room. To get to your room, you are exposed to the weather as well and have to encounter a short staircase as well. Phew! The room layout is terrific, almost like a suite. Superbly upholstered, it has all the elements you would expect in a luxury hotel like this. The swimming pool facing rooms are nice, but two things to mention: they should offer at least halfhour of wifi free, and two, the toilet should have a jetwash spray - heck, even airport toilets s in Singapore and in the Gulf have them. Toilet paper may be the international norm, but should that be the case in India as well? The bathroom has a bathtub and a separate shower cubicle which has a nice marble bench to sit on while the water showers down on you!
The 24-hour restaurant is decent - the bread was terrific but the breakfast could have been better - especially the south Indian stuff. The architecture is a bit confusing, especially to get to the restaurants. It looks a bit dull during the day, but at night, the place is transformed! The large reflective pool of water plus the fires that burn in the centre make it terrific.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your wonderful review.

The internet speed is the fastest in the city and hence there is a charge for it. We have noted your suggestion for a jetwash and shall try and ask our contractor if these can now be modified.
The Chef has also been briefed about your comments on the South Indian selection and changes are being made to the menu as I write to you.

You may write to me directly at gaurav.issar@oberoihotels.com for any assistance that you may require at The Oberoi, Gurgaon.

Warm Regards
