My wife and I recently completed a tour of India taking in 8 cities. We stayed at the Royal Highness whilst in Ahmadabad and our stay was initially a reasonable one. The receptionist when we arrived was very good as was the food and attentive staff in the restaurant. On the morning of our last day we asked the receptionist if we could keep the room till 9pm as our train did not leave till late that evening. He told us that would be fine and the charge would be half the night room rate. We were very happy with this.
However when we came to check out at around 8:46 that evening we were faced with a very different course of events. The receptionist was far from being polite. He told us that despite what we had been told, we must pay the full cost of the room for that night as we did not check out before 7pm. Obviously if we had been told this in the first place, we would have moved our luggage out of the room at that time as we were only having dinner in your restaurant so this would not have been a problem.
As seasoned travellers we felt that there is a major integrity issue here.
To make this much worse, on paying the receptionist/cashier in cash the full amount, he looked at us and said "OK". I asked for my change and after I became quite firm with him, he gave me part of the change back. Again he said "OK". I had to then really press the point to get the rest of my change. I got the impression that he did not want to give me a copy of the bill.
I have never come across a cashier anywhere as rude and acting in such a manner.
I would not recommend this hotel due to the conduct of its staff.
