“Pros & Cons, but no value for money @ 7000Rs/night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

Lovely hospitality by the staff. Shilpa was very responsive to all our needs. Amar, a smiling helping hand always accessible. Rooms by themselves were good, comfortable spaces, however access was narrow and the fact that they have no view of any sort was not clearly communicated on website. Pool is tiny, murky and not clear enough for kids and only filled with chlorine. Wireless supposedly available but even walking around every square inch of the place did not help getting our device connected. The entire environment around Casa Candolim was quite dirty and felt unsafe at times. Water supply inconsistent, getting shut off multiple times. Frequent power cuts as well, a big holiday minus. Rooms 1 & 2 felt like an outhouse and the rooms near the pool did seem much better they were NOT offerred to us. Overall we had a nice family holiday in North Goa inspite of these issues .... thanks to the city that goa is! Will sign off by reiterating that the staff as casa candolim are warm, friendly and helpful and we will leave grateful that they took care of us here. And at 7k a room absolutely no value for money when 5 stars were charging 9k a night for guaranteed amenities.

Room Tip: Get the rooms facing the pool. That way you don't have to walk through unkempt brush & rando...

Thank you Dear Reviewer for such an honest review. It was the Easter weekend you choose to come and that was the reason for the higher rates. Thank you so much for your kind appreciation of our services and staff. Being a small hotel, we cannot offer the facilities that you would get at 5 star hotels and bigger resorts but we do try our best to compensate that with a `home away from home atmosphere and service'. Do remember that we are a beach centric hotel and for us the location is what drives our property….. the proximity to the beach. Beach properties are about 4 times the price of the properties in the hinterland, so the operational costs have to match the revenue generated to make it a profitable venture. Had our property been in a location far away from the beach, I do agree that it was possible to offer a tariff lower than what we are offering right now, since the property itself would be cheaper. Therefore the price charged is not only proportional to the services offered but to the location itself. So the value for money comes from two things- The location/ proximity to the beach and providing guests with rooms that are extra large in size, air-conditioned and with amenities like Television, Pressure-water for a shower, Broadband Internet, coffee-maker etc.

To answer some of your other concerns..... most of them have been brought out amply by several other reviewers too. ......

Yes, we are setup in Candolim Village which experiences a few power cuts and this is something that we cannot control. Blame it on the Government, not us, please. We can only do our bit by providing a backup invertor for each room that provides 2 lights and a fan. The air-conditioning does not run on the invertors.

We amply advertise and mention in all our emails that we have a small pool. To keep the germs away, since you were with small children, we SPECIALLY asked our staff to put chlorine so that the kids get a germ free pool. With Chlorine, the pool does become a bit turbid but for a short while. The pool feels turbid because it has two powerful inlets ( like a Jacuzzi ) which keep the water in circulation.

The rooms in the Beach front block, were not offered to you because we had long staying guests during that period and they were already occupied and booked much before your trip. The beach front rooms, in fact are more modern and sought after amongst most of our guests, however guests requiring a relatively quieter environment prefer the pool view rooms. Most of our foreign guests prefer the beach view rooms as they get more sun and you can see a lovely sunset from the balcony. Do remember that we are but a very small 8 room hotel and we get sold out months in advance, so if you require rooms of your choice you are requested to book much in advance to make sure you get the choice of rooms.

You have correctly pointed out by you that there is no way that we can compare our hotel to a five star resort with sprawling lawns, business centre, multiple cuisine restaurants etc. We would like to share this with all Trip Advisor's viewers too that if you are looking for a five star environment, ours is certainly not the hotel you should choose. If you are looking at a small beach centric hotel with just the basic facilities and emphasis on flexibility and on service then this would be the place for you. Ours is not the perfect place with never any problem... there would be an occasional power cut or a water connection problem, but the later would just be for a few moments till remedial action is taken.

Last but not least, please do not blame us if people put in a good review and your expectations soar to a level that you are set-up for a disappointment. We do feel that if you expect the least, we will surpass your expectations and try and satisfy you in every possible way. However if you visit us with a pre conceived notion that everything would be perfect and equate everything with the price that you are paying, there is a minimum chance that you would enjoy staying with us.

Thanks once again for so aptly, bring out all the pros and cons of Casa Candolim, it also gave us a chance to clarify for the benefit of future guests. That’s what makes trip advisor such a fantastic tool for travellers.

My wife and our 3 kids stayed in Casa Candolim for 2 weeks in March, it is a fantastic little hotel mades so by the staff. We first stayed in Goa 15 years ago and this was our first time back since, and the first time for our kids in India. Candolim itself has changed beyond belief, however within Casa Candolim we found a great place just to chill and relax . I cant praise the staff highly enough, it was really like living with a family in their home, with someone always around to welcome you in and check whether you needed anything. All in all the best place i have stayed and cant wait to go back.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool were best with kids

Family run establishment conveniently located in Candolim about 5 minutes walk from the beach. The owner is very helpful and ensure you make the most of your stay by referring you to a lot of local places. Rent a bike (a motorcycle bike) for the duration of your stay to get around. The room was spacious and had everything that was needed. The breakfast is served at your convenience, and you can easily get 'Western' food should you want it.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2012

I just stayed for a week at the Casa Candolim during my Goa vacation, and liked it so much that I decided to stay a few more days after visiting the South of Goa actually i cut short my 6 days stay there and returned to Casa Candolim for 4 extra days.....best decision even though i couldn't get the same room was worth it.
It is s a small professionally operated small hotel, not a huge property fancy but a bit quaint, clean, homely with a nice small swimming pool and garden. I had a chance to stay in both the blocks each has its own character couldn't decide which was better.
Breakfast is included and strangely besides the lovely eggs served i have to reccomend the pancakes. A really nice touch is the evening tea served which is so welcome once your back from the beach and have taken a shower and Viola!! Tea and a small bite - heaven.
All the staff were super nice and helpful and made me feel very welcome and were genuinely excited to see me when i arrived back they even remembered my table for breakfast and seated me there.
I would very much recommend this hotel if you are looking for a warm friendly home hotel - you might want to book in advance since it is often fully booked.

Room Tip: Both blocks are equally good, just a minutes walk from each other
