Soon as you arrive you realise the hotel has seen better days....far better days! The wide imposing structure badly needs a coat of paint and sprucing up. The aged and tired feeling stays with you to the antiquated and slow front desk, through the corridors, the large spacious lobby, the slow jerky lift and into the rooms. This hotel has been set up in the 60s when most tourist facilities in India were owned by the Government. Its quite clear that contracts for subsequent renovations have been awarded on L1 tender basis! The quality of the fittings and furniture shows that. The hotel is owned and operated by Indian Tourism development Corpn, a Govt owned company.
Location: If you have work with the State Govt or Govt Departments then this hotel is very conveniently located. Secretariat is 1km, State Electricity Board offices just round the corner, 3km to the commercial areas of Fraser Road etc. Airport is 6 km/ 15min to the south-west and Patna's main Railway Station is 2.5 km/ 15min to the south-east. Surroundings are clean and safe, can comfortably go for a morning walk in the vicinity.
Rooms: Everything that you would expect from a 3star hotel is there but the quality of fittings and furnitures are an issue. See pictures. But then, I did not find any bugs or lizards as has been reported by some on TA, maybe I was just lucky. bed was comfortable and sheets crisp and clean. See pictures of room.
Dining and Service: One multicuisine multipurpose restaurant. Elaborate menu but stick to Indian items and you will not be disappointed. Try the continental items at your own risk! Nothing wrong with the ingredients, its just that the cook doesn't know how to rustle up western dishes. Prices are reasonable. Room service is quick and enthusiastic. Full restaurant and bar menus are served up in the rooms. There is a bar though. Mostly empty during weekdays and closes early by 10pm. But I was told that on weekends the bar gets quite lively with local guests.
Facilities: The pool did not look inviting and I did not have time to check out any other facility.
Overall, don't expect star category facilities and you will not be disappointed. Value for money for a couple of nights and its safe. Staff is excellent. I wouldn't mind returning here.
