Having holidayed over a month in India, and experienced many kinds of hotels, my overall impression of the Comfort Inn (City Park) in Hyderabad is quite positive.
Many hotels in India are not well insulated from the (very regular) electrical blackouts that plague both major cities and small towns and they frequently lack hot water for showering.
Not a problem at the Comfort Inn City Park. They have excellent, seamless electrical backup generators which never skipped a beat (I stayed there for 8 nights). This also means you can rest easy in the knowledge your electrical chargers, laptops, etc. are not going to be damaged by power surges (as happened to my videocam's battery charger which got fried by a power surge in Rajasthan, when a crude hotel backup generator kicked in during a blackout)
(General word of advice - it's worthwhile bringing a good surge protector to India, if you plan on plugging your mobile phone, camera, laptop, etc. to the AC mains...)
At this hotel there is always piping hot water available, but if showering in wee hours of the mornings, water may be cold initially, but let it run for 5-10 minutes, then it will become hot. At all other times, hot water should be instantly available.
The breakfast buffet (vegetarian) served at this hotel is simply SUPERB! Maybe I'm biased being a vegetarian, but I think even carnivores will appreciate this buffet. There is a very large variety of dishes on offer every morning, including local specialities. They really do go the extra mile with their breakfast.
This same restaurant ("Madubhan") serves excellent vegetarian fare at other times of the day. I tried their szechuan mushroom for dinner and it was a delight for the tastebuds.
This hotel will deliver a complimentary fruit basket to your room every day (containing bananas, apples, etc.), as well as an English-language daily (alternating between Deccan Chronicle and Times of India).
Wi-fi access is available in all rooms for those with laptops, but I didn't test this.
Many channels available on their TV, but the reception on my set was a bit grainy. There is no fridge in the room, but kettle is provided. The air-con in my room worked very well, keeping the room ultra cool (an absolute necessity when the temp. in Hyderabad soars to 40 degrees C and above). However, there were some pigeons roosting in the ventilation shaft above my room, and they occasionally made a ruckus...
The location in the heart of Abids (shopping district) is very convenient. But just be careful when crossing the street because the traffic is very heavy outside...
If you are going to stay at this hotel, then book directly with them and steer clear of third-party internet booking sites, as you may end up being charged twice. I booked my room with Visa credit card via an internet reservation system, and when I checked in, was told the Visa hadn't been charged when in fact it had been charged in full, however as I didn't realize this at the time, I ended up paying for my room in cash, i.e. paying them double/twice. So now I'm trying to get my money back.
Anyway, their website is www.cityparkhyd.com so you can just make a reservation directly and avoid this pitfall.
