“Great for a weekend picnic”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

The Osmansagar lake near Gandipet has a very nice picnic place. We were surprised to find such a place at an accessible distance from Hitec city/Gachibowli area. There are actually two park areas: the first one while approaching from Gandipet has crowds. Go further on the barrage road by the lake and you will find a second, less crowded park/picnic area. This has fewer people, and is well maintained (without the usual garbage strewn around in such public parks). There is also a vendor for tea and snacks.

“Bakwass Place”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

there is absolutely nothing @ this place. It's all construction machines, dirt and concrete all around. The Lake itself looks like it's got yellow fever or something. Stupid Place to go and morever it's so far from the city that no bus will take u there. U need to book an Auto from gachibowli which will cost u around Rs 250/-

“Lake for Calm and Happiness”
Reviewed 19 November 2011

A picturesque lake, located about 20 km from the heart of the Hyderabad city, takes ones breath away. It is called Gandipet or Himayath Sagar reservoir. The lake was formed by the construction of a dam across the river Esi, a tributary of river Musi by the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad from 1920 AD to 1927 AD to save the city from the disastrous floods. It is also a source of drinking water for Hyderabad and Secunderabad, The lake has a catchment area of 266 square miles. The storage is 1,753.50 feet of water. There are 17 flood gates. The lake is maintained without pollution. The setting sun reflecting from the water is a sight to behold. The tourism department maintains landscape gardens and various other facilities for the visitors. But do take your own food and water. One needs to have his own travel arrangements as local transport is minimal. And watch out for unauthorized guides. The best time to visit is after the monsoon when the lake is full, although a visit anytime is great. There are many resorts and amusement parks that have come up nearby.
