Just got back from a pleasant stay at Hilton Sharks Bay.
We had booked 2 rooms, 1 on either side and when we arrived, we were told the rooms were not ready so they gave us a choice of a suite or 2 rooms on the old standard. We took a suite and it was located right next to the chill out bar. The room looked pretty tired and it was a bit to central so we were happy to move to the other side. They gave us 2 rooms in the 3000 block overlooking the middle pool with a beach. The rooms were excellent, large plasmas, nice comfy bed and balcony, tea\coffee making facilites and a nice bathroom with bath and walk in shower.
The pools were amazing but rather cold, the slide kept the kids busy and it was never crowded. The small beach area is excellent for those with smaller kids who enjoy playing in the sand. The beach area is terraced and there is a small jetty from which you can snorkel off, the house reef was excellent and we had fun times snorkelling.
Breakfast was varied and there is a large choice including fresh made to order omlettes and pancakes. Lunch can be taken in the restaurants as a buffett but we spent most of our lunches in the waves pool bar\restaurant. You have a choice of ciabatta sandwiches and chips which was good enough for us and the kids.
Dinner could be taken in 4 restaurants, they are all buffett except the Italian which needs a booking, but we never managed to get one as the 'book' was not there, or they would never pick up the phone. There is a different theme every night and they do try their best and to be honest it was ok. IF we got bored we would go to the El Bedoin restauarant and have some fresh Sheesh Kebabs and naan !
The area where the hotel excels in, is its staff. They were all very friendly and could not do enough. The grounds are kept clean and theywork round the clock to maintain them. Special mention to Wagdy our cleaner in block 3000 and his amazing towel art, Ahmed the doorman at the restaurant, and Ahmed & Mahmood from the Jetty who made sure the coral stays safe.
The only negative thing I would have to say is the Dive Centre, I tried to have a pool test dive on 3 occasions and one day they were on holiday, the next 2 days they were not there. I was really hoping to do some diving while there but it just did not work out. Also there prices I found were very high, they wanted £50 for a 30 minute try dive ! I could not justify the cost.
Now some useful information for any potential Muslim Tourists
All the food is halal so no issues there, there is no pork or bacon served, all bacon is beef bacon.
They have no issues with people bathing in full length swim wear and there were also a lot of locals over the weekend which made it nice. The fact that the hotel was used by them is testament to how good it is.
There is alcohol served in all the restaurants.
The nearest Masjid\Mosque is one used by staff within the Concorde Hotel complex which is the next one down. There are no issues going there for prayer and they also perform Juma there as well.
Direction of Qibla\Mecca can be found in the drawers under the tv in the rooms on the new side. The Reception will print out a prayer timetable for you.
The only negative thing I found was that there is a lot of topless sunbathing going on, especially at the beach. Although it is not allowed they are helpless to control it in fear of losing customers. So if anyone is sensitive to this they should probably remain near the pool. We spend most of our time just sitting on the jetty or right at the bottm next to the Dive Centre whenever we were on the beach side.
Overall, If I was ever to go back to Sharm, I will not stay anywhere else.
If I ever went back to Sharm I would definitely go there.
