I've got to say that i travelled to Egypt with a little trepidation, needless to say this was unwarranted. from the moment we arrived to the moment we left nothing was too much trouble. i would go as far as to say it is one of the best holidays I've ever had and would go back tomorrow. the hotel was spotless, the place was beautiful, the staff are the friendliest I've ever met and Mr Abdullah the restaurant manager treated me like a king. i had a 40th birthday i will never forget.
thank you

Room Tip: sea views are fantastic, but at night the whole place looks amazing

This is the 2nd time that we have stayed at the Stella,
Went for a week NOT LONG enough, can't wait to go back , this is our 2nd home.
They gave us an upgrade without change and a lovely plate of fruit, which was a lovely surprise.
The staff are really helpful they all work very hard, any problems they will try and sort out without any fuss.
The cleaners do a fantastic job, and do wonderful art with the towels.
The hotel is really clean; you will see workers cleaning all the time.
There are lots of swimming pools to chose from.
The beach always has lots of sun beds, and shades.
The pool with the bar in the middle is a quiet pool so if you want to relax try this pool.
The food is of a high standard; the cook comes round and asks if every thing is ok.
They will cook something if you ask.
There is a BBQ every night either chicken fish or meat.
They are lots of cakes.
I found that there were so much choice of food.
We have never been sick at this hotel, they all wear gloves when dealing with food.
The standard of hygiene is very high here.
The evening entertainment is fun and gets people involved if you want to.
I found the shows very good and liked them all.
The children’s club do a great job with the small children; they speak at least 5 languages. All staff speaks very well, and all speak at least 5 languages, which puts us all to shame.

I would return, and would defiantly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room near the quiet pool they are large and have lovely views.

An HONEST review, me and my partner both in our early 20's on our first holiday abroad together. Felt it only right that I write a trip advisor review seeing as this website made us chose this hotel in the first place.

Arrived in Egypt and man who seems very friendly and helpful wanting to load your suitcase onto the coach for you, is NOTHING to do with the coach driver, the hotel or Thomas cook. He is just a bloke who comes to the airport every night to make a bit of money from loading cases onto the holiday coaches. He DEMANDS a tip, and a big one. 5 pounds!!! For slinging a case on a coach! Be warned, load your own case!! The coach driver will just laugh and rep does nothing to stop him.

We were both nervous on the coach ride to hotel. Bus steps first at sunrise hotel and 99% of people on board the coach get off. Great we thought!!!!! It left us on our own for the remainder of the 20 minute journey.. Very scary along the unlit desert roads!!

First impressions, beautiful spacious and very friendly staff. Perfect location, pictures don't do it justice as to how close it is to the beach but hotel is literally on the beach. You can walk from the main pool to the sea, easily, in under a minute. Rooms big, although we had two single beds and we requested a double? Thomas cooks fault more thn the hotel I would think. Requested a pool view and glad we did as view was very very nice and could see the relax pool directly under our window. Was a two minute walk to the pool and restaurant we was very central which was good as you don't want to walking too far in the heat. Could see apartments that we're really set back and out the way - glad we were not located there.

Hotel laid on buffet for us when we arrived as it was nearly midnight and food stops before then.

They forget to mention that all inclusive starts about 6/7? And finishes at 11pm. After then drinks are paid for. Me and my partner are not partiers at all but it's our holiday it would have been nice to have a drink past 11!!!!

On our 2nd day at the Stella makadi, my partner started to complain of SEVERE stomach cramps, so bad he found it painful just to stand up!!! followed by a heavy spout of dihoreha. Hadn't bought any immodion or paracetamol with us (idiots!!!) so took a trip around the resort to see if we could find the hotels "clinic" as it says in Thomas cooks descritption of the hotel and advertised all around the resort. Found the clinic and asked if they could supply us with tablets to stop the bad tummy and was told a doctor would be out to us within the next half hour with some tablets. GREAT... We thought. On our way back through the shopping bit we found the pharmacy (different from the clinic) found here that a box of tablets was gonna cost 135 LE. (13£ roughly) declined as we was gonna wait to hear from doctor. However pharmacist was keen to warn us that the doctor would charge us £500+ for medication from him. We thought he was exaggerating and trying to get us to buy from him instead so ignored what he said... We wish we hadn't. Doctor turned up half hour later and examined my partner telling him he had severe dehydration, and a bacterial infection in his stomach... So he would need an INFUSION..... set of injections and would have to take a number of tablets a day followed by more injections. Instantly alarm bells rang as this is what pharmacist had warned us about. We asked how much this would cost and doctor became very shifty and said he didn't know the exact price but would tell us after all the medication etc had been done. We went round in circles for about half an hour trying to get the doctor to tell us how much this was all going to cost and eventually he came out with £300-400 pounds??? Roughly.. He said. And JUST for the injections.  He was keen to start the infusion now and me and my partner both said no and his attitude towards us soon changed. He began very friendly and helpful and as soon as we declined his rather expensive cure to DIHOREHA he became quite intimidating and would not take no as an answer. Two young people on their first holiday alone in a hotel room with someone with very little broken English trying to perform some kind of "infusion" on you is not the best of experiences. After demanding he left and refusing the treatment he did so but basically told my partner that this was the only way to cure him and he was going to get worst. We thought we would take our chances. Hoped this would also be our last experience with doctor.. WE WAS WRONG.
Day before our last day was bombarded with phone calls to our room from the doctor demanding that we go an see him. We told him we had dinner plans and everything was fine we did not need his medication.
Our last day we was again bombarded by phone calls and spoke to the doctor he told us we owed him £80 for him coming to our room..... WHAT?!!! We asked the clinic for tablets and they told us they would send some....... They never told us about this £80 charge before, during or even after the doctor came to our room. What was we paying £80 for?? We declined his offer for the medication??? He is an on site doctor we shouldn't have to pay for him to come to our room. Wee went to the clinic in the first place!!!! They sent us back to our rooms and told us he would come to US!!!!
Not only that but if we had known it was going to cost 80 we never would have agreed to deal with the clinic at all but no where in the hotel or the clinic does it mention this cost.
We only wanted some dihoreha tablets.
We went to reception to sort this out and spoke to "maher". He was very helpful and arranged for the doctor to come to reception to speak to us about this. Maher said that the hotel and the doctor were separate. Not according to all of the doctors advertisements though. Doctor said he was too busy so we would have to go to the clinic to see him. We did and waited in the clinic waiting room for an hour (on our last nightmight I add) for him to see us.
Clinic absolutely AWFUL it is literally something out of a horror film except full of very intimidating egyptian men, none of which speak very good english, and i did wander if we were going to come out alive. I wish this as a joke but literally a scene from saw. please avoid this at all costs.
We explained we was not paying the 80 as had not be warned, told and did not understand what we were paying for. I explained that if that was the case I was going to charge him 180 pounds for calling us to the clinic. We could all make up charges couldn't we!!!!!
We threatened to tell the hotel management and he said him and his manager had decided to wave the 80 and we could forget about it.
Unfortunately though had we not been so forceful I think he could have easily had that money from us.

Staff cannot do enough for you especially ramon and Ahmed from the relax pool. Always very friendly and helpful and they love the English.  Few of them told us the Russians were rude and arrogant and so as soon as you say you are English they cannot do enough to try and help you.

At the hotel we were 1 of 3 other English couples staying at the complex it is very German/Russian/eastern European. Entertainment of an evening is very centred around them but it would be as I suppose they have to cater to the majority. Had we known this we probably would have chosen another hotel as couldn't socialise or have a laugh with other couples as both me and my partner don't speak German.

Entertainment of an evening was appalling. I think you would have found it hard to find it entertaining whether you was English or German. Literally looked like someone had given the guys some wigs and said try and make people laugh. It was very un funny, always disorganised and embarrassing to watch. Entertainment team did not look like they wanted to be there and neither did we. Thank god we had a tv in our room otherwise we would have been very bored. Other English couples also said they found entertainment very poor, most nights we were all going to bed at 9 o clock because it was better than watching the entertainment. Some nights they had a few Cabernet singers but again dodgy cabaret singers and you certainly wouldnt pay to see them or want to hear them again.

Food at hotel was OK. Luke warm and Not much choice but you can Get by. Thank god they have a la carte restaurants because after three nights of boiled chicken or pasta you crave something different!!!! They had different choices to be fair but all tasted the same. All cooked in same spices. If you like pizza then you will be ok as they serve this at the bar restaurant and the main buffet restaurant for lunch AND dinner. I would definitely recommend going to the Italian and Indian restaurant on site. You have to ok 1 day in advance but it is all included in your all inclusive programme. Absolutely delicious meals on both evenings and we were gutted they were fully booked on our last night!!! Must book these at least once!!!!!

We went to Stella gardens as well while there and was very impressed. Much bigger than the Stella makadi, more pools, a wave machine, flumes, newer as well and more choice in the restaurant. It is not open to the English officially though yet were not sure why?? Was open to the Russian etc though and looked spacious and relaxing and what we saw of the entertainment was MILES better than at the Stella makadi. All very enthusiastic getting everyone on their feet and happy to be there unlike our hotel.

I think hotel would be OK if you was older and just looking to relax and do nothing else but every night me and my partner were in bed by 9 because entertainment was so shockingly bad, we had stomach cramps and there was no one to talk to because everyone else at the hotel was German or Russian!! We are not party go ers at all but it would be nice to have something to look forward to of an evening as we ate dinner and basically went straight to sleep again.

Stomach cramps ruined our holiday as we were constantly looking for the nearest toilet or laying in bed in pain. This would put us off coming back to Egypt again. Have heard many different reasons as to what it could be, change in water, food poisoning etc.

A few tips
-avoid the shopping area as you will get harassed by shop owners
-avoid the main pool as again you will get harassed by the trip organisers
-stick to the relax pool
-reserve a sun bed although signs saying you can't. All the Germans do.
-book the Italian/Indian restaurant
-take IMMODIAN

Room Tip: Any room around 5000 will be near both pools.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on your recent stay with us. We greatly value every feedback we receive.

I am sorry to hear that your stay was not up to your expectations; we have discussed your comments personally with all concerned for appropriate measures where necessary.

Meantime would like to notify your good self that all the information about the all-inclusive concept was made available to all the travel agencies and we firmly stick to what we have stated. While all the all-inclusive concept timings, guest benefits and hotel regulations are handed to each and every guest upon arrival during check in process including the summer advice to avoid the upset stomach & travelling sickness.

Please trust that it was really a great dismay to read about the negative experience you suffered with the clinic ; please trust that once we read your review we immediately contacted the owner of the clinic sending him your review and all the necessary actions were procured to assure extending maximum satisfaction to our dear valued guests .

Many thanks for the comments and compliments shared about the staff and the food at the ala carte restaurants, we really felt pleased that you had enjoyed dinning there.

While we would like to notify you that we had the dinning around services available, for each and every traveller at Stella and we made both hotels Stella Beach & Gardens services available to the entire guests with NO EXCEPTION. Including outdoor facilities such as 13 swimming pools including kids pools , 2 main restaurants serving with weekly different theme nights, plus 9 bars and 4 ala carte specialist restaurants, Indian, Italian, Lebanese and Chinese that’s why we felt bit disappointed about the comments raised about the food taste as its bit wired to have four different international cuisines serving same taste of food.

Thank you for bringing to our attention you opinion about the entertainment, while would like to assure you that we have a different outsider performers from the best available companies within Hurghada; trying to please and entertain our dear beloved guests and we will never give up to work harder till we reach the premium level of services that we strives for,

Finally; I hope your experience does not prevent you from visiting us in the near future and once again, thank you for the review.

Just back from two weeks at the Stella Makadi Beach Resort and Spa and had a fab time. From the minute we arrived in Reception to be greeted we were looked after.

Our room was lovely in a quiet spot (as requested) more or less next to the quiet pool area (Rm 7223). Huge shout to our housekeeper Ayman (Emo) who looked after us so well for two weeks – you are a STAR….

We did have a slight niggle on check in as one of our requests was a high floor, however Thomas Cook have a Health & Safety policy that none of their guests can go above the first floor. As I am a responsible adult over 50 I chose to sign a waiver and was given a higher floor room. This was resolved by the Reception Staff quickly and efficiently. Thank you Mohamed and Antonious.

There are more than enough pools to accommodate everyone with lots of spare loungers and if you prefer the beach, this hotel has one of the largest and best laid out beaches, again with more than enough loungers for everyone. There are still the very sad guests that get up at the crack of dawn to ‘bag’ their spot on the beach or spot by the pool but as I said loads of spare loungers so let them get on with it I say !!

There is a large buffet restaurant, three specialist restaurants (Indian, Italian and Italian buffet) , a beach snack bar, a cocktail bar and a couple of pool bars. All of these give excellent quality food combined with excellent service.

The lobby bar do great cocktails (thank you Mohammed) but can become quite busy in the evenings so a little patience may be required. That said the service is still great.

The Indian, Italian and Italian buffet can be booked every day from 10:00 am at the restaurants. There are several sittings every evening from 6:30pm and you can book for the same day and the following day. I would advise everyone to try all of these at least once. I can’t decide which out of the Italian Buffet and Indian is my favourite. All of the restaurants offer excellent quality food so thank you to all the Chefs…. I have to mention Abdulla (Maitre D), Ibrahim and Ramy from the Italian/Indian and not forgetting Nour and his amazing pizza……

Food in the buffet restaurant is great and they do different themed nights so always something for everyone. Again such a high level of customer service…. Thank you Ahmed, Amer for his perfect eggs, Sayed for his fresh Juice service (Mr Fresh Fresh) and of course Hazem the Manager…

There is a dive centre on site – Piano Diving (not on the CDWS web site), however at the time of our visit they were unable to offer Nitrox so my husband booked with Aquarius at Tia Heights, a short walk along the beach front. They were excellent and he highly recommends them. A very professional outfit with excellent dive knowledge and experience to suit all levels of ability. Aquarius do offer discounts on various packages if pre-booked via the internet. A huge thank you to the boat crew on Aquarius 3..

There is a Spa offering great deals on Facials, Hairdressing and Massage and it also incorporates a gym. Always ‘haggle’ and you know you have a good deal when they are prepared to walk away. I used the spa a number of times and again, excellent service with great value for money.

If you don't want to lie around all holiday you can join in the daily activies which are plentiful. I enjoyed the yoga. The animation team work extremely hard.

I don’t really have any negatives as such for this resort just one very small niggle….
We stayed ‘All Inclusive’ and neither myself or my husband drink very much so were very disappointed when one morning we couldn’t get tea or coffee at 6:15am as this was unavailable until 7:00am. However, a quick word with Tatiana, Customer Relations, and this was resolved. I do think though that by offering one area where Tea and Coffee are available 24 hours will enhance the current high level of service offered to guests staying at this hotel.

We are frequent visitors to Hurghada and Sharm for the diving and, as always, at the end of a holiday I ask myself, would I stay here again – ABSOLUTELY. My advice to anyone thinking of staying in this area of Egypt would be, Book the Stella Makadi Beach Resort and Spa, go and have a great time…..
