Our son and his wife bought us a getaway at this wonderful B & B for a gift as they knew we needed a rest in the middle of getting ready to move from our home of 33 years, to an apartment. Since the beach is our "happy place" we looked forward to our 2 nights. Barb and Ed were very accommodating when we needed to change a date because of our situation. Ed even emailed us great directions to their place...better than map quest! It was not their busy season yet, which was terrific for us since we needed the extra peace. We stayed in lovely suite #2...with some beautiful antique pieces, a comfortable king bed, and tasteful flowered wallpaper. The electric fireplace was a nice touch as the temp dropped down in the evening. I could see the sun rise while lying in my bed and looking out the bedroom door to the east window, Very cool for us!!
Our breakfasts were delicious and loved that Barbara and Ed were willing to share some recipes! Can't wait to actually make my own Sullivan Bread. Ed used his homemade bread for a delicious french toast bake one morning. I also look forward to making the grape breakfast bread! Mmmmmmm
This B & B is a very close walk to the beach. One afternoon, we came off the beach to find homemade tea with sliced lemons and banana bread as a treat! It was wonderful to enjoy while sitting on the porch.
What was super cool for us is that our first day there, we enjoyed breakfast in Avalon, lunch in Stone Harbor, and dinner in Cape May. It doesn't get better than that! This B & B is also right off of rt 9 and/or the Garden State Parkway, depending upon which way you travel. Thanks Barb & Ed, for a great 2 night stay in your "home." We highly recommend The Sealark B & B.

Ive have stayed here several times. It's very reasonably priced and a great location! An easy walk to beach, restaurants and shoppes. It has recently been renovated and I stayed in a newly done room. Very nice and comfortable. The new owners are great and very accommodating. Morning coffee and breakfast sitting on the big porch is awesome! Lovely place to stay!

This place has wonderful breakfasts, good A/C for hot days, and is a great location, near the beach (and has requisite outdoor shower, etc.). It has potential, but unfortunately, right now, it is not living up to it. The price is too high for the condition of the room we were in. The place needs a deep cleaning. Some of the furniture is shabby. The bathroom is serviceable but nothing more; the two futons that were seemingly available for sleeping in Loft 7 were in horrible, horrible condition – very uncomfortable, not suitable for sleeping, just sitting, in sofa form (but were covered in hair on the fabric). (The bed in bedroom was fine.) Kind gestures like giving us duvets to cushion the hard wood framing of the futons were nice, but not adequate. The first words out of the owner’s mouth when we arrived were “Who’s going to pay the rest of the bill?” – did not feel welcoming. I’m not sure these folks have run a B&B before – maybe still learning. But the good will of customers may run out if overhaul of rooms and service (or steep reduction in price) don’t happen soon.

We're sorry it's taken so long to respond to your review. We have just started going over the Trip Advisor site. We have taken your problems seriously, and made some changes. The futons were horrible, and will be replaced by the summer.
We also have had groups rent, and go right to their rooms without a thought as to who is paying the balance of the bill. I'm sorry if you found my request rude. It wasn't meant to be. Balance is always due at check in.
I remember you and your mother, and appreciate your advice as to what would be appropriate for sleeping in the living area.
To anyone else who may read this review, we are making many changes, and appreciate those who give us helpful advice.
We are doing our best to make The Sealark a clean and comfortable place to stay at the shore.

I'd probably say between a 2 and a 3. We stayed over 4th of July weekend and to celebrate my birthday in one of the loft apartments (#7) and my sister-in-law and brother-in-law stayed on the second floor in Room #5. Our 2 adult daughters came on different nights to stay with us.

PROS:

Great Location—2 short blocks from the beach and a block from the main drag with all the shops and restaurants, so walking distance to nearly everywhere. The B & B is on 30th Street, which is also where the surfer beach is (keeping the crowds on the beach down) and where they shoot the fireworks off.

Fantastic breakfasts—Each day there was a different hot dish (blueberry pancakes were incredible), a baked bread, and a variety of fresh fruit. All of the food was freshly prepared and quite tasty. Also, fresh coffee was ready to go at 7:30, which was perfect for us to have some coffee before our run and before breakfast.

The front porch and back deck (which we had shared access to with the other loft apartment) are nice spaces to hang out. The front porch is a great place to sit in the gliders and they do have a table in the corner for 4 or 5 people to sit around. This area is the definite highlight of the place. The back deck was very nice and we did spend some time out there, but it badly needs to be power washed due to years of weathering and algae growth (which does get slippery when it rains).

The beds were quite comfortable.

There is also an outside shower that you can utilize after you check out, so you can have another whole day at the beach. We didn’t take advantage of it, but it is a nice to have the option.

CONS:

While the owners are relatively new, and while I understand it’s an old house and there’s charm in that, the place in general is rather tired, run down, and need of some overhauling and fresh paint. It seems that many shortcuts were taken and things were made to be functional, at best. The paint on the railing is chipping all the way up. The rugs are worn and need to be replaced. The showers are basically camp showers with cheap shower heads (actually we considered showering in the better outside shower). The sink and stovetop in our kitchenette are old and quite basic. The refrigerator leaks water and the knob to turn it colder was missing. The locks on the doors are old and stick. The lighting is also in need of updating.

Cleanliness was also an issue. There needs to be a good deep-cleaning of the place as there is dirt caked into the baseboards of the bathroom. Our bathroom mirror, the full length mirror, and the windows had not been cleaned upon our arrival. There was only one roll of toilet paper in the room when we arrived (but we were quickly given more when we requested). The soap in our bathroom had been watered down. Again, there was an overall feel that corners were cut in excessive ways.

There are 2 futons in the loft apartment, which is why we booked the loft apartment (so that our daughters could come and stay). They are terribly uncomfortable and should be replaced with regular twin beds. My one daughter chose not to stay a second night and my other daughter ended up sleeping on the floor. Bottom line is that these futons are not good for sleeping additional people, which is their purpose. There’s a significant upcharge for the kitchenette and for use of the back deck. Additionally, there is supposed to be an additional upcharge per additional person. To be fair, thankfully this second charge was waived for whatever reason by the owners.

One of our biggest issues was the repeated use of the common area by the owners. The first night of the stay the owners were in the common area watching tv, but we figured they were waiting for people to check in. The second night they were there just hanging out watching tv, which we thought very odd. On the third night, the night of the fireworks, they had a party on the front deck with their friends and family, thus basically taking over the best part of the B & B when it was full of paying guests.

This place has definite potential and certainly has its pluses, but given the area and what they are charging they need to do better. It’s a charming old house, but it needs some upkeep and some TLC and the common areas of the house need to be reserved for paying guests.

the idea that owners do not use common room is odd and not sit on the porch
is strange. this is our home
the up charge per person is $15 this covers a full breakfast towels and linens
the price does not even cover the cost
we are replacing the futons

Well we arrived early just so we would know where we would be later that night... There were kids and that did throw us off never seen that befor...inn keeper said oh you're early and than asked for balance of payment. She than escorted us to our room where the key did not work and room could not be locked. Room was nice. The rest of inn was not welcoming and was in our opinion neglected... The keepers were I guess shy they would peak in and disappear? We came down but early for coffee which was ok and sat on porch. Breakfast was a French toast casserole that was served buffet style but it was more like bread pudding. Also fruit( was dipped in something?) we didn't like it and rice pudding which was not inviting and for breakfast??? This was served at 9 we left 9:15 place needs to be cleaned up sorry I don't like to leave negative reviews but we wouldn't return...
