Private Qingdao Day Tour: May 4th Square, St...
Ranked #8 of 287 things to do in Qingdao
Certificate of Excellence

This is a must-see attraction on any Qingdao visit, and a beautiful piece of art with deep historical significance.

The park itself is nice, but nothing special. The Ocean Walk is a pleasant place to look out on the Olympic Sailing Center, but features an endless line of cheap souvenir stalls.

The best part of the Ocean Walk that spans miles of the Qingdao coastline, with many more interesting places along the way. See the Square and the sculpture, but then keep walking for more adventure.

Perhaps the Chinese forget the reason this monument is here , perhaps they remember but the government is making sure you don’t remember, but this monument stands for the students and people to refuse given away their land to the Japanese’s and were willing to fight for their right to keep it !

It's easily accessible by subway and bus. Do arrive before 9pm, as they switch off the lights promptly. Bring a tripod. Row of shops on the eastern side of this sell identical stuff.

Is a "must" if you visit Qingdao. May Fourth Square, is a large square, close to the quay where you can enjoy a nice walk and you can find lot of places for to take a coffee or to enjoy some meal. Also the view is nice. The negative I found is the permanent problem in the Chinese big cities, the air pollution and the problem in communication cause most of the local people don't speak english.

You can take the subway here and walk around the square. In the evening lots and lots of people wait for the city to light up and the monument as well. In September the lights came on at 7:30 pm and then go off around 9 PM. It is quite a site to see the skyline slowly light up section by section.
