“Awesome!”

The Terra Cotta Warriors Of WeiShan
Attraction details
Reviewed 3 October 2017

About an hour's drive from Xian by coach. Xian is about a 2 hour flight from Beijing and has a population of 11.5 million.
When you enter pit number 1 where 4,000 larger than life size statues meet your eyes it is a jaw dropping moment. A must on the bucket list when visiting China. There are two other pits but number one is where the bulk of the statues are situated.
The museum is equally full of interest with individual warriors and chariots on display.
We did not have a guide as none was really necessary.
However I would recommend buying the photographic book which comes with a DVD and postcards at 200 yuan about £15.

To see this in reality and not just in photographs was stunning - truly a once in a lifetime experience and worth the whole trip. The scale of this site is breath-taking . I loved the individual expressions on the warriors' faces and the sheer audacity of this project. Despite gift shop hard sell hell ( as in most government sponsored attractions in China),this attraction was incredible and transcended in every way the inevitable commercialization . Do not miss this if you have the opportunity to see it.

The Terra Cotta Warriors are at Xian not Jinan, not WeiShan. No where near Jinan. WeiShan is near Jinan but there are no Terracotta Warriors there.

I cannot adequately describe this extraordinary site, wonderous in its vastness and history. The warriors are so life like in appearance and the hugh number of them and horses too is staggering....... truly amazing. Another wonder of the world.
One note, as the area is huge and the crowds are huge so be prepared to walk and push in around the exhibits or you won't see anything, you are taken one way up to the galleries by a little train but have to walk back to the carpark through a army of stalls selling everything and in your face to buy, that's fine if you wish to but if not then best not to speak at all to them, if you say no they will hassle you for at least 200 meters down the way. The walk takes approx. 20 minutes.

The terracotta army should not be listed under Jinan. It is not in Jinan, or even near Jinan, it is very close to Xi'an. I went to Xi'an and Jinan in May and both are interesting but quite different.
Yes, go to visit the terracotta army, it is well worth visitng. But if in Xi'an, the most important this to see is the history museum.
