I just got off a cruise in Yichang and got a train ticket at midnight to Zhangziazie from the town train station. I didn't want to haul my bags around from 2pm til midnight so walked directly away from the train station..down all the stairs, straight across the street and walked one block further (w/overpasses) and across that street was a hotel called Zia chou Hotel Group. I went inside and asked how much a room would cost (showed them my train ticket for midnight) and I got a very nice room with hi speed internet, new furniture (looked like a new building) et al for 100 YUAN which seemed to be the partial night rate. He knew right away what I wanted at the desk. SO I told them I would check out at 11pm. This is a lovely hotel and the regular rate appears to start about 220 yuan.
The town of Yichang seems to have a bad rap as I found it around the train station..very up scale with wonderful shops and lots of hotels. Easy to walk around and not get lost. McDonalds so you know there are other things here too. The train leaves only once a day I guess at 11:59 pm . I had heard there was one in the morning too at 7:30 but the station agent said no..maybe just no seats then. The ride is suppose to be 5 hours to Zhangziazie..but I'm not counting on it. 9/7/2010

Mold on the walls, completely unable to fix extrabeds despite that was what we had booked, the possibility to order european/american breakfast was fake - they had orderforms for that (and coffe) in the rooms but when I tried to use it to get som coffee and orangejuice for breakfast completely confusion started, and after 7 phonecalls someone could inform me that they couldn arrange for that, and agreed that it maybe was stupid to have those orderforms in the rooms, but wouldn't remove them...
Fortunately there was a Mac Donalds nerby where we could buy breakfast for the kids, and coffe for us...
