Hosted a business meeting for eight starting at ten thirty so this was dim sum plus a lot of soup (fish head broth was amazing even if I would never have ordered it myself), rice and hotpot dishes. Food very good (not as good as the best in Hong Kong but still very good) and atmosphere is superb. I have eaten in Laurels many times and the quality is always very good. This Portofino branch is also in a nice chillout place. "Portofino" is in Overseas China Town (OCT) a ten minute walk from Windows of the World and is a copy of a mediterranean/Italian town with pavement cafes and wine shop; it charms rather than annoys and somehow manages to carry off the attempt to persuade you that there is something really Italian about the place (Italians may disagree but there are far more crass versions of this sort of thing in China). All in all I recommend this place as somewhere to relax in Shenzhen... and for European expats, if you sit outside you can eat authentic Cantonese food AND persuade yourself that you have gone back home for a couple of hours.
