Very comfortable room. Also very comfortable service. I had enjoyed business trip in Xiamen. Because this hotel was welcomed me with casual service for my visit. I am hoping to spend the next Xiamen at this hotel

This was my first time in Xiamen and first time at a Langham property. I've stayed in a lot of high quality hotels on business trips to China, and this is as nice as any. I only wish I had more time but I arrived late into Xiamen because all flights in China are delayed all the time. The check in was simple and I went straight to my room and to bed due to the late hour. The elevator security is intense! I'm guessing they have a problem with unintended "guests". The room was comfortable and spacious, and the breakfast buffet in the morning was very good. I did take a look at the pool and spa area and would have loved to enjoy them but was short on time. The process to get to these areas is maddening...you must go to the lobby, then show the elevator gestapo your room key again, then take another elevator back up to the spa, and reverse the process coming back. Seems ridiculous, but that's my only complaint.

I have been traveling to Xiamen for over 10 years and this was my first time staying at the Langham. Given my trip was last minute, the hotel I usually stay at was completely full. I was hesitant at first but honestly, this turned out to be a better stay. Rooms are much more spacious with a very nice and comforting layout. Another plus, the hotel was next to a shopping mall which made it quite convenient.

a nice hotel with nice staff. Great location adjacent to a large shopping centre. Needed to go there 4 times in one day and at 2 minutes per trip this was no problem. Spa was a bit too hot and the need for a bathing cap was a pain if you wanted to use the great indoor pool

Location: best location, right beside a major shopping mall

Room:
Aesthetically pleasing interiors but could be better maintained (some areas look a bit old, i.e. the carpet)
- Clean towels; complete toiletries, room slippers; very generous with refilling hotel amenities
- Comfortable bed and good selection of pillows.
- room for people with disability was available but we had to exert a lot of effort to get it; not provided upon check in but 2 days after when we were able to talk to the manager and already experienced one minor accident in the room.
- bed too high, not suitable for elderly people
- Smell of cigarette in room, including chairs and linens (we requested for non smoking room but this was not provided)

Service:
- Very poor check in procedure; took more than an hour to check in 6 people, 3 rooms.
- We missed dinner due to delays in check in. The lady in the reception seemed not to know what she was doing and spoke almost no English. We ended up ordering room service but the food was very bad and tasteless! The servers provided poor service and even asked for tip. When told about this incident the following day, the hotel manager clarified that this practice was not allowed in their hotel.
- most of the staff encountered around the hotel spoke no English. They can't even understand simple numbers (0-9)!
- Hotel manager (Piers) was very professional and understood customer needs but hotel policies were too stingent. He had a hard time balancing the need to please customers and defending hotel and staff's inefficiency.
- special commendation to concierge staff, Roger. He was very good. Understood and anticipated needs of customers; very friendly, smiling always, efficient and professional, despite little English knowledge.

Buffet breakfast
- Spacious coffee shop and pleasing interiors
- a very wide selection
- croissant-based pastries very good
- Chinese food was a let down
- Japanese selection was available but didn't have a chance to try it.
- Coffee good but very difficult to get; staff was not responsive
- poor service; servers cannot understand needs/ requests

Room Tip: non-smoking floor is available but at a premium price (!)
