It was an excellent choice as an option to Shangri-La because its slightly cheaper and its always nice to check out new 5-star hotels (they just opened in Feb I think), no??
Our airport pick up was waiting for us when we landed with a huge signage with my name on it and we were promptly ushered to the car. They have bottled water in the car and the ride takes about 50min-1hour. A note to ladies traveling there: apparently the street taxis would stop en-route to pick up other passengers to make more money so please beware - it is safest to arrange for a hotel pick-up.
Room - The deluxe twin room was faultlessly roomy and very clean. 2 double beds - what they call Heavenly bed - was extremely plushy but note that the blanket can be quite warm after a while so you either have to adjust the temperature or ditch the blanket. The bathroom was huge and equipped with some white tea toiletries. Nice. The bathtub was up against a glass panel overlooking the beds, cheeky, but of course there's a shade to pull down as an option. Functional working desk, armchair for relaxing, and of course plenty of TV channels. Free wireless too.
Room Service - ordered this although we reached the hotel at 10pm as the airline meal was crap. Salon fillet, malaysian satay, and Fuzhou fried noodles were nice but not wow. Arrived within 45mins of ordering but the room service staff had difficulty understanding you if you order in English.
Breakfast @ Seasonal Taste - a typical 5-star hotel spread but nothing memorable. It was also quite empty but I guess its due t the hotel being new.
Five Zen5es - Had lunch here the next day and it was rather nice and very quiet with us being the 2nd table occupied. This serves Cantonese and Chinese food but note that they do not have dim sum. But thumbs up to the dishes being not overly salty as it sometimes is in China, and presentation was good too.
Spa - Tried our luck at this before we checked out and it was pleasant although the foot reflexology I had could have been better in terms of technique. Otherwise, the place was very spa-like with zen music and they handled my feet almost too carefully when washing, moving etc. Prices were very reasonable: mine cost RMB198 (without taxes). Desserts and tea served upon completion of the treatment.
Had to take a 1 hour 15min ride to one of the County upon check out, and it cost us RMB650 from the hotel booking centre. A bit expensive but better than have random taxi drivers drive us around in an attempt to wring more money out of us.
The service from check in to check out was excellent, with smiley and friendly staff, and some almost too eager. Not sure if its because I am a SPG member but I will definitely choose this over Shang next time. It is also better located next to the Minjiang River (means you'll get plenty of breeze when you step out) and right next door to a large shopping mall.
Westin Fuzhou is truly a gem!
