After visiting Angkor Thom we exited the site via this gate, stopping to take some piccies and have a closer look at the elephant carvings (that frame/hold up the heads), the complex is massive with lots to see, however, it is worth giving the gates a bit more than a cursory look as you drive through.
There is knowledge even at the gate of the city. As everything is Angkor, it's also exquisitely carved and decorated.
Sunday 13th January, we were on a guided tour of the Temple Complex in Angkor Thom and surrondings, our tour took in a visit to this Gate, which is also known as the Victory Gate.
It is situated in the complex between Bayon and Prah Khan with the Jayatataka Baray nearby.
The gate was used by the ancient Khmer kings on their return from their victories in battle.
It is not as elaborate as the South Gate, however it does have a certain charm and should not be overlooked, it is worth a visit.
Loads of history at the gate, where good verses bad, good on the left and bad on the right both holding a serpent.
I did the big circle starting after Banteay srei from the north and wanted to see Bayon the last so I crossed the north gate and went straight to the east side to pass the victory gate. All of them are impressive. Take a stop!
