“Stunning oasis in the heart of Siem Reap town”
Reviewed 15 April 2012

I cried. I had found this place somehow on the internet, seen pictures of it and insisted that this was the place that we were going to stay (because of the design & decoration), right in the 'Old Market area' of Siem Reap. This is where the restaurants, bars & shops are concentrated, from what I could see, for the tourists. Action aplenty in this part of town. Anyway, even though I had seen what this place looked like in pictures, I cried when we arrived in the hotel room - with joy, of course (I also shed a tear when we finally laded on the tarmac and when I saw my first piece of ancient wall. I'm like that). What a beautiful oasis for the sweaty traveler. You will no doubt be in Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat, but if you are lucky enough to visit some of the more far flung temples and lovely fishing/jungle villages, you might feel like you have found some kind of paradise. I mean a paradise in general with this lovely and friendly country, let alone with the Terrasse des Elephants. The staff were so lovely and the rooms were decorated in a 'temple carving' style. We wanted to come home to Australia and redecorate immediately! The rooftop pool and garden were such a special place to relax and enjoy reflecting on our adventures from the day, whilst overlooking a bit of action down below on the main street. We stayed here for 8 nights and loved every minute. If I came back to Siem Reap again, I would not look to stay at any other hotel.

Room Tip: Although it seems like a bit of a hike to get right up to the roof, especially after climbing temple...

Unique hotel, a real gem. The staff was wonderfully accommodating and utterly charming. We were in town for a wedding and on short notice the staff organised a welcome dinner, and a rooftop, star-lit surprise proposal!

The delicious food and gorgeous salt water really made our stay!

This hotel is exactly as others have described previously, quirky, interesting architechture, unique, great roof top swimming pool, and we were not disappointed. Six of us stayed for 2 weeks, and luckily had pre-booked, as they were always full. This was our base, which was excellent, being right in the center, close to all the many restaurants, shops and markets. So many eating places, you couldn't possibly try them all, but they do cater for every taste and budget. Contrary to some previous reports, we had no problems in using the cash machines, and I would advise bringing cash in dollars, and not travellers cheques. All of the staff were extremely courteous , polite, smart and helpful, and a special "thank you" to Vanesha the hotel's general manager. Our last night we were surprised with a free 3 course meal!! We travelled on the overnight sleeper bus to Sihanoukville, and then got a tut tut to Otris beach, stayed for 2 nights towards the south end of the beach where it was lovely and quiet. Then on to Phnom Phen, here we visited the Killing Fields and the Genocide museum - A "must do", and well worth the trip. Back to the hotel, and this is what made the holiday for us, being so unusual, and really hope to return one day. Many thanks to you all.

Terrasse des Elephants is a charming hotel with a fine customer service oriented staff, unusual rooms and a very satisfying breakfast buffet.
Note: the lighting was not too good for people with less than perfect vision, and quite challenging at night because the sink is on a elevated platform with steps (which are impossible to actually see in the dark so one needs to 'remember' where the steps are located.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in which the bathroom is at least on the same level as the rest of the room.

We stayed here 3 nights. The hotel is very special, sculptures everywhere. The rooms are spacious, and meet the expectations when you see it on the Internet. The gentle sound of water does not disturbe and you can shut it off. The rooms do not completely isolate outside noise.
The breakfast buffet is very limited.
On the roof of the hotel is a nice pool. Nice to stay a whilet after several hours of walking around on the various temple sites.
The location of the hotel is beautiful. Very close to the old market and all restaurants. In front of the hotel are a few very simple local restaurants where you can eat very tasty for little money. The taxi from the airport cost US$ 7. Here you can also order a taxi at the kiosk inside the airport. The driver suggested us to drive around for the various excursions.US$ 30 for a full day and 15 for a half. Apparently this is an official price.
Interestingly, everything here is paid in US $, even the ATM give dollars.
