“the Yes & No...”
Reviewed 5 December 2011

Decided my booking after reading rewiews from TripA.
The first impresion of the entrance /reception is one of a room that badly needs a fresh hand of painting , another softer type of lightening ( argh! those neon lights!) and nicer furniture...Staff is very nice , maybe sometimes too friendly that you wonder what they expect from you..( an extra tip?)but it's fair enough , they are very poor...
garden and swimming pool ok , breakfast a bit poor ( no choice of bread ,and why nescafè ? , not one Cambodian specialty )our room was ok ( " deluxe") terrible pink Lycra curtains at the windows , no water pressure ,it could do with a bit of new furniture ( they sell so nice and cheap materials at the markets!) the great thing was our huge terrace which we enjoyed very much.Restaurant very good , so was the cooking lesson.
Pity we weren't ackowledged at all by the owners, hardly a brief hello at breakfast, and we stayed there for 5 nights! we also had 3 excursions booked through them ,of average quality.( the" gourmet basket "of the Angkor Wat day trip was filled with fruits , fruits and fruit juice!!)
I guess that for the price they are surely other nice familly run hotels in Siem Reap.
Our impresion was one of a "was-once-a-nice-place "...it's not too late to react!!

Room Tip: De luxe double room with the huge private terrace.

My family and I spent 4 days here, loved it! Great food (really cheap!), nice people and the New Zealander who owns it (correction to a previous review :)) is a great guy. Good value, lovely place.

Room Tip: Get the private dinner cooked by the chef next to the pool; it was great!

First impressions were of an old entrance area in need of a make over, it was just untidy and a little disorganised. the staff were lovely and very helpful, in fact a little too attentive, but that does not make up for the building. There are little kitsch signs every where that tend to be annoying after a while, the menu in the outside restaurant was an old magazine with laminated pages stapled inside.
Our room was upstairs and over looked a nice garden area, the facilities were ok but the bed was VERY hard, even by Asian standards. there was also a strong smell of damp/mould that pervaded the room.
Mid afternoon we were told to stay in our rooms for about an hour as they were fogging for mosquito control, the smell pervaded our room and was horrible, in fact it seemed stronger in the room than outside, several of our party complained of head aches. At this point we booked out and moved to a different hotel, the Borei Angkor which has proved to be very comfortable, and for the same price.

Room Tip: If you suffer from asthma then this might not be a place for you.

Just returned from Siem Reap and had a fabulous time. I took a 12 hour bus ride from Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam. At the end of the journey, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the hotel was. Set amid a lush garden, with a wonderful pool and friendly staff. Spent some time with the hotel manager who was very nice and made sure that I enjoyed my stay there.

After being in Vietnam for a week, it was refreshing to find a place with similar values to mine.

- they buy their water in bulk to minimize the number of plastic water bottles filling landfills
-there are 2-3 free range chickens that supply the eggs for breakfast
- they have these great quotes scattered around the grounds like "It's never too late to be what you dreamed to be."
- they offer volunteer English classes (taught by interested guests) to local Cambodian children in exchange for them to pick up trash in the community
- they hire blind masseuses to give them the opportunity to work (my masseuse was adorable!! so sweet, attentive, and great at what he does. definitely a highlight for my trip. It was worth to pay $15/massage versus $5 in town b/c of the setting of the massage room and the blind masseuse).
- there are great local places to eat at within walking distance (much cheaper than what is found downtown. Instead of everyting being $1 or $2, it's about 50 cents. The locals that work these food stands are really kind and appreciative too.

The hotel was great value - $45/night for a bungalow with a great balcony - luxurious but comfortable. If you feel like treating yourself after backpacking most of SE Asia in cheap guesthouses, this would be the place to stay at. It is about $2 each way via tuk tuk to the city center.

I had a fabulous stay here! Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Stayed in Room 9 - bungalow w/balcony.

The River Garden is out of the main town part but easily accessable by Tuk Tuk and only 5 mins by Tuk Tuk to the temple complex. First impressions were good, the reception staff were full of smiles and very friendly. We stayed in a standard room, which was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was where we had problems, upon noticing bugs crawling around the floor and killing them armed with a flip flop, we located their home, two holes by the plug hole where they kept crawling out and feeling the wrath of my flip flop. The staff were very helpful and after one of them tried to drown them with the shower, the maintenance man came and concreted them over (at least the room is now suitable for its next occupants!). On day two we had an early start to see sunrise at the temple, which was fortunate as at 4.30am there was some sort of international arguement occuring between a livid cambodian woman and an australian guy.. to top this the shower button also broke meaning an early call to reception, the guy couldnt fix it so he gave us the key to the room next door to shower, it was good to see our room wasnt the only one with bathroom bugs, this one had ants. Besides the bathroom troubles, our stay was enjoyable, we didnt venture out into town at night as the food on site was to a good standard, as we mainly came to siem reap to see the temples, the hotel was perfectly located for what we wanted.

Room Tip: Put a drinking glass over the shower plug hole!
