“The Zoo” that’s what the Taxi driver called it on our return to the airport after our 8 day holiday to the Amwaj Rotana Hotel.
We booked 2 rooms for my parents my husband and I to celebrate my Mums birthday. On arrival we had to give over a credit card to have an amount blocked, on day 3 a message appeared on our TV asking us to go to reception to pay an outstanding bill for drinks we had on the first evening. (64 Dirhams about £12). We were informed that due to the amount we owed the hotel would like us to pay the bill and pay 500 Dirhams for further credit. We found this unbelievable and told them we had already had the card blocked for such things. The hotel had lost all record of blocking the card so we informed them that we would not be having anything else so the matter would not reoccur. After we complained at the way we were treated we were informed we could have anything we wanted and settle the bill at the end of our stay. (A little too late for us) We told them we would not bother.
Bedrooms we were asked if we wanted smoking or non- smoking opted for non –smoking as no one smoked was given smoking had to change rooms
Swimming pool had to be up at the crack of dawn as beds were saved from 6am in the morning even though a sign stated belongings would be removed unused bed after 30 mins, what a joke. You have to make sure you get on with people as beds are so close together you were almost sharing their sun cream.
Meals you were seated at tables that hadn’t been cleaned after the people before so you had to sit with dirty plates glasses and napkins until another waiter came to clean up before you could have a meal. As for the food well it was either eat it or go hungry as choices where very limited and if you didn’t eat spicy food then you went hungry as on one particular occasion, 2 members of our party didn’t eat Indian food so we asked if an alternative could be done. After asking the chef the answer came back No.
Then you come to breakfast if you decided to have an early breakfast (say 8ish) then you seem to be chasing round looking for waiters, food, plates, bowls and anything else you might need for breakfast, or again a table that has been cleaned.
