This was our 2nd visit to Dar Al Masyaf (with wife) Summer Flavours, but this time we stayed in Gulf Summerhouses (issue with Virgin Hols about check in, We had paid an extra night for early check in but didnt get our room till mid afternoon - no reflection on hotel taking this up with Virgin). Love driving up that driveway with the Golden Horses and expanse of Marble Floor. As usual we always visit in Ramadan so our visit was end of July beginning of August 2012. Requested Villa 9/10/11. got 11, Very happy. Good check in at Villa 11 with Zabil and his service was excellent the whole two weeks we were there. He's the star of the show and we left a letter for Butler Management to say so. Zabil even showed us around the Suite in the Villas in a quiet moment (he's such a sweetie, it looked lovely and he promoted it well as well as promoting the inter-connecting rooms, tempted to return with more family)
We have stayed in both types of Villa and would defo say we prefer the location/style of Gulf Summerhouse as they are lighter and we specfically asked for those villas above as NOT quite Beach Front as we wanted to use private pool...what a result our room was ground floor and four steps away from the pool and only a short stroll over the bridge to beach.Maid did an fab job (they work really hard and room was always well stocked & spotless) WE never encountered any waiting for Buggys or Abras and to be honest we were 100 yards from main buggy station at Al Qasr so walked to the hotel for brekkie in the mornings the staff in Arboretum remembered our names (build up the appetite - food is lovely) but you really need the transport in the evening due to humidity. There were a few 'little' touches missing this year (Beach Bag had to be requested, No Talise Spa samples, Bath Salts by the bath and the evening turndown choccie is no longer a good quality...asked the maid to stop leaving them they were that bad, I know they are minor things but these are the little touches that make a hotel more special) maybe cut backs? but price had still increased this year even if we had taken an Arabian Villa. When we arrived the 'Dine' info/voucher pack had had a few restaurants moved about which no longer incurred supplements which was nice.Segretto is one of our favs and had become non supp.MJ's we love and the Manager on duty the night we visited kept us waiting no more than 30 secs when we arrived and was so apologetic and offered us some extras at our table (which we did not take up, but how professional was that if we'd have blinked we would'nt have even noticed any wait) We did move about the resorts for evening meals (Zabeel Saray, JBH etc) but never tried Creekside, Maybe next time.Dhow & Anchor and The Wharf both do a lovely 'Sunday Roast' if your looking for it, . So many restaurants....not enough time! We know the ropes now so day one get mini bar emptied hit Carrefours stock up on soft drinks, snacks etc and refil mini bar with our own. Take our own drinks to the private/main pool ask for an ice bucket (the waiters are very happy to provide one). All pools have lifeguards including the small villa ones (there's an ambudance of lifeguards at the large pool which was good to see) Happy Hour still fun and informative, Mix with the other guests and get their feedback on what they have done that day or restaurant recommendations plus have a drink (Zabil knew our drinks by heart). Can't quite see why the Madinat Souk is SO heavily promoted nothing there and very fake. Only reason we went was for the money exchange or to Barzar (they do a 'tab night' Tuesday & Saturdays 90 dh for five drinks) and visited 'Rivington Grill' great Eggs Benedict, our favourite...yes was included in SF. Amala at Zabeel Saray still a great place to visit for an Indian Meal. Carnivale is very good (waiters/management remember that the 'non' celebrities like ourselves also need service) we dont rate Toscana theres something not quite right, Can't put my finger on it, Dont know if its the ambiance of the place or what. and service is a little slow in Go West, All of the Signature Dining restaurants we visited (and we did quite a few) are attentive and good service as well as excellent food. Visited Burj Khalifa and also Burj Al Arab for tea (still hadnt done it after four visits to Dubai, done now off the tick list...used our Sirius Card and got quite a bit off the price at Burj Arab) Already did Gold Souks, Spice, Dune Safari, Mosque, creek rides previous years. So this holiday was for R&R.Made us sad to leave its our fav in Dubai.
Anne Marie Houston if your reading this and you have a reward scheme Zabil should be nominated!!!
Would we visit Dar Al Masyaf again? without hesitation

Room Tip: Dont be buying those Coca Cola's round the pool....go to supermarket.

If you love luxury go here because this place has everything from amazing restaurants to amazing pools this is one of the top hotels in the world for a reason. Recommendation is definitely to go for the sea front and not the back ones unless you want to be closer to the Al Qausa (excuse the spelling error) very friendly staff, fun but one down side is that it is rather expensive but if you go to Dubai that is what you expect.

A few years ago we lived in Oman and used to take regular trips to Dubai, staying at a number of hotels and getting to know the standard.
After 3.5 years we decided to take a trip back and stay at a hotel that had been recommended to us by our travel agent.
This hotel is very clean and tidy. However some of the furniture is very dated and so this maybe a disappoinment. But the rooms were very spacious. The views that are offerered in the Summerhouses are very good and this is defintely worth consideration.
We took the option of half board- this did not intitle us to all of the resturants however it is worth considering as Dubai is very expensive and this will save you money for your meals.
Staff are a very good reason for wanting to return, after reading these reviews we were expecting a lot from the staff as this seemed a very prominent comment throughout all of the reviews and this is defintely something I consider to be important as the staff were fantastic! Nothing was too much, the hospitality and warm smiles made this trip.
This hotel offers a lot of ground and you are able to acess many of the Jumeirah hotels and have a look around and dine at them. The facilites are amazing; Boat rides (Such a large site this along with buggys is the way of transport very fast and relaxing), wild waadi, and large swimming pool along with exclusive acess to other parts of the Jumeirah hotels ( Burj Al Arab, Beach hotel, etc.)
We have teenagers in our family and we found there was a lot of familys and young children, this is defintely a very busy hotel so if looking for a very exclusive and quiet break this maybe not the hotel.

Room Tip: Summerhouses have brilliant views and facilities aswell as being spacious- worth looking into a summ...

The Dar Al Masyaf is a great place to holiday with a family. The villas make the location feel very personalised and the landscaping is beautiful. We were also impressed with the cleanliness of the grounds, hotels and restuarants. The standard of the staff is exceptional and beyond one slightly awkward conversation regarding an overcharge from our mini-bar, the butlers, gym staff, waiting staff, buggy and boat drivers were all very warm and friendly. However, this isn't to say that hotel doesn't have its faults, as it does. Our room (Arabian Summerhouse) was very pleasant and well equiped but didn't quite measure up to expectation, as it didn't really have a wow factor. Additionally, our two children were sharing a sofa bed and this made the living area feel quite small, and the bed was really too small for them (ages 5 & 9). If I were to return to the hotel, I would certainly have to consider an alternative option. During peak times (meal), the buggies and boats are not as readily available as one might like but it should be noted that they do work very hard to make sure that waiting time is kept to a minimum. However, the hotel's biggest letdown was the quality of some of the restaurants on the half-board plan. Simply, some of them shouldn't be anywhere near a hotel with such obvious high standards. To be fair, I didn't try them all and but other guests felt similarly. For us, Villa Beach set the standards and I should hope that management try and bring the other restaurants up to this level. One other point to note, is that the Dar Al Masyaf is VERY expensive and drinks etc., soon add up and I would really recommend making the most of villa happy hours! However, to end this review negatively would be unfair. The pools (with the abundance of lifeguards), the beach, the fantastic gym, the warmth of the staff, the water park and the hotel's overall ambience all do make for a happy and special time, and I would certainly consider returning there.

It's very difficult to find any faults with this place. You may have to wait for a buggy/abra but what's the rush! Lovely location only 30 minutes from the airport.Taxis are really cheap so don't pre-book a transfer. The Half-Board package includes some amazing restaurants. Our favourites were Segreto, Carnevale,Go West,La Hambra and Villa Beach. Make sure to ask the Butler which ones are included because it's not always obvious. If you go during Ramadan/summer you won't find better value anywhere.
