This was our 2nd visit to Dar Al Masyaf (with wife) Summer Flavours, but this time we stayed in Gulf Summerhouses (issue with Virgin Hols about check in, We had paid an extra night for early check in but didnt get our room till mid afternoon - no reflection on hotel taking this up with Virgin). Love driving up that driveway with the Golden Horses and expanse of Marble Floor. As usual we always visit in Ramadan so our visit was end of July beginning of August 2012. Requested Villa 9/10/11. got 11, Very happy. Good check in at Villa 11 with Zabil and his service was excellent the whole two weeks we were there. He's the star of the show and we left a letter for Butler Management to say so. Zabil even showed us around the Suite in the Villas in a quiet moment (he's such a sweetie, it looked lovely and he promoted it well as well as promoting the inter-connecting rooms, tempted to return with more family)
We have stayed in both types of Villa and would defo say we prefer the location/style of Gulf Summerhouse as they are lighter and we specfically asked for those villas above as NOT quite Beach Front as we wanted to use private pool...what a result our room was ground floor and four steps away from the pool and only a short stroll over the bridge to beach.Maid did an fab job (they work really hard and room was always well stocked & spotless) WE never encountered any waiting for Buggys or Abras and to be honest we were 100 yards from main buggy station at Al Qasr so walked to the hotel for brekkie in the mornings the staff in Arboretum remembered our names (build up the appetite - food is lovely) but you really need the transport in the evening due to humidity. There were a few 'little' touches missing this year (Beach Bag had to be requested, No Talise Spa samples, Bath Salts by the bath and the evening turndown choccie is no longer a good quality...asked the maid to stop leaving them they were that bad, I know they are minor things but these are the little touches that make a hotel more special) maybe cut backs? but price had still increased this year even if we had taken an Arabian Villa. When we arrived the 'Dine' info/voucher pack had had a few restaurants moved about which no longer incurred supplements which was nice.Segretto is one of our favs and had become non supp.MJ's we love and the Manager on duty the night we visited kept us waiting no more than 30 secs when we arrived and was so apologetic and offered us some extras at our table (which we did not take up, but how professional was that if we'd have blinked we would'nt have even noticed any wait) We did move about the resorts for evening meals (Zabeel Saray, JBH etc) but never tried Creekside, Maybe next time.Dhow & Anchor and The Wharf both do a lovely 'Sunday Roast' if your looking for it, . So many restaurants....not enough time! We know the ropes now so day one get mini bar emptied hit Carrefours stock up on soft drinks, snacks etc and refil mini bar with our own. Take our own drinks to the private/main pool ask for an ice bucket (the waiters are very happy to provide one). All pools have lifeguards including the small villa ones (there's an ambudance of lifeguards at the large pool which was good to see) Happy Hour still fun and informative, Mix with the other guests and get their feedback on what they have done that day or restaurant recommendations plus have a drink (Zabil knew our drinks by heart). Can't quite see why the Madinat Souk is SO heavily promoted nothing there and very fake. Only reason we went was for the money exchange or to Barzar (they do a 'tab night' Tuesday & Saturdays 90 dh for five drinks) and visited 'Rivington Grill' great Eggs Benedict, our favourite...yes was included in SF. Amala at Zabeel Saray still a great place to visit for an Indian Meal. Carnivale is very good (waiters/management remember that the 'non' celebrities like ourselves also need service) we dont rate Toscana theres something not quite right, Can't put my finger on it, Dont know if its the ambiance of the place or what. and service is a little slow in Go West, All of the Signature Dining restaurants we visited (and we did quite a few) are attentive and good service as well as excellent food. Visited Burj Khalifa and also Burj Al Arab for tea (still hadnt done it after four visits to Dubai, done now off the tick list...used our Sirius Card and got quite a bit off the price at Burj Arab) Already did Gold Souks, Spice, Dune Safari, Mosque, creek rides previous years. So this holiday was for R&R.Made us sad to leave its our fav in Dubai.
Anne Marie Houston if your reading this and you have a reward scheme Zabil should be nominated!!!
