You've heard it right the creek was and in many cases is the heartbeat of dubai! it offers you the traditional touches of dubai:

some tips: take the 1 aed abra(water boat) trip between different stations and roam around both sides absorb the history:)

you can also book the private abra for your trip
evening dhows flowing on the creek are worth it also

keep away if you don't enjoy historic and traditional places. the street may be crowded and messy at times!

areas near and around the creek on both sides offer some great shopping also!

A throwback in time the creek is a classical reminder of the bygone era when pearl was the other name of the place. Even today travellers and office goers locals as well as expats take these boats to make the travel across to the other side. The view in the early morning in the sunlight is as beautiful as the view in the late eveining. The boat ride for just 1 AED is surely a divine experience in a desert.

We booked an evening trip on the Dubai Creek Dhow dinner cruise on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. The boat was a traditional wooden style which slowly made its way on the water while we dined on a very good choice of international dishes. The staff on board were friendly and helpful but at the same time, not fussing around all the time. There was entertainment on the upper deck, a one man performance which was a kind of swirling dance, with layers of clothing which he cleverly moved in various ways. The layers changed colour and lit up. Sounds odd but it was quite entertaining. It's a suitable trip for families, the children on the boat appeared to enjoy it very much. It is a 2 hour trip in all and you get picked up from your hotel and taken back again afterwards.

We went to the Dubai Creek area as part of a half day tour of Dubai. It's very interesting to see the old buildings and old boats when you have been so over whelmed by the new amazing architecture of the Dubai of today- incredible to think what the city was like 40 years ago. Great fun to wander around the spice and gold souks after your trip across the creek in an abra. If you do a city tour ( in the morning) I would suggest you plan to spend the rest of the day at the souks where there is lots of shopping apart from jewellery and food there are clothes ond souvenirs and then make you own way back to your hotel or plan to come back another time.
