“One of the "only" cultural things to do in Dubai”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

There really isn't much culture in Dubai, if you're looking for it, honestly, forget it!
However, if you do crave some novelty of culture or would like to see something of old, then "the creek" and it's little ferries is it.

The Creek is a small segment of old dubai, unlike the name, the Creek is more like a widened river canal. The only thing that truely makes it old is the myriad of small wooden boats that coast people back and forth for 1 dirham.

It's quite an interesting little trip if you can spare an hour.
There are no life jackets, now safety precations, just an old wooden boat, battered from use over time (seriously, the wood looks roten on so many of these boats, but it adds to the experience of it all)
When you journey on one of these, you can't help but be charmed by how many of these littered the waterways and how seemlessly they putt along to their destination.
It's quite a liberating experience and it's one of the only moments where you feel like a local (local migrant worker to be specific).

One of the things you will soon realise whilst on this little journey, is simply the fact that there are no local Emirates travelling on them, just migrant workers.

Overall, the ferry crossing is a lovely, relaxing cruise.
It's a pleasant means of travel that'd no doubt be worth a couple of pictures.

“ferry crossing”
Reviewed 4 July 2012

The abra ferry boats crisscross the Creek which cuts Dubai into two...join the locals for 1 dirham or charter your own boat for 2 hours for 100dirhams...it is great.
