Old Dubai part isn't as glam as new Jumeirah but thats what i love about it..take water taxi( 1 dirham pp.) to cross to other side..especially evening..magical when town is in light,etc..few shisha smoking cafes..will not give away clues but we ended up puffing till 4am and place was still full of locals! great night, loool ;)

Very hot but had a cool ride on an abra at 100 dirhams (£17) I last worked as captain of a supply boat in Dubai Creek but it is dhows only now. Very interesting and I was shown a video of the history of the creek in the old port office in the souk.

The closest you will get to old Dubai and one of the few areas that can be explored on foot.
The Creek is bordered by Bur Dubai and Deira, the oldest parts of Dubai's built up areas. These are full of shops where you can haggle, unlike the malls. The Gold and Spice Souks are nearby. The Creek can be inexpensively toured for a couple of Dirham on the water taxis (Abras).
