“Informative, friendly and welcoming.”

I went to SMCCUs talk and tour at the Grand Mosque in Dubai. It starts at 10am every sun, tue, thur and sat and reservation is not needed. It costs 10 Dirhams (1.68GBP 2.72USD) and lasts for about 1 hour 15 minutes. You are welcomed into the mosque (you should wear suitable clothing -covering legs, arms and definitely chests, but traditional attire is provided if you can't refrain from wearing shorts to the mosque. Women are asked to cover their hair. You need to remove your shoes but aren't required to go through the ablution process. The talk was given by a British woman who converted to Islam 20 years ago. She gives a basic summary of Islam and talks of some Muslim traditions and religious practices. She prays, talks you through the process of Muslim prayer and discusses Muslim attire. At the end she answers any questions at all. Throughout the whole talk she is extremely open and all questions are answered and photos and videos can be taken at any point. When I went the had a free shuttle bus to their offices for a traditional Arabic lunch.

The tour here is great and one which you would not normally get to do asnd ask questions from an educated guide. I am very glad I had the opportunity to do this tour and would definately recommend it.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2012

We where able to visit famous Jumeirah mosque with a guide from SMCCU for just 10Dhs cca. 2 €. It was really great experience with light intro to Islam religion and it's pillars.
The lady spoke about an hour about Islam with very open way.
Strongly recommend.

“A good guided tour of the Jumeirah mosque!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2012

I asked a lot of questions - do not hesitate - it helps you clear some prejudices! Ask ahead about dressing code - women need to cover their heads, shoulders and knees, and man not to wear short trousers. Be aware of the heat too while waiting and visiting from outside.

“Informative”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2012

It is a good place to taste local emirati food, visit the mosque and asked questions on the local culture. It is preferable to visit in the later months of the year, because the tour is outdoors (and may be a bit hot otherwise). It is a nice contrast to the shiny new Dubai. If you are in the area, a ride on the abra (traditional ferry) is a must.
