We stayed at Villa Chitdara for 6 nights. It was in a fantastic location - apart from the roosters, very quiet, within a short walk to the main street and the night market and on one of the main routes for the morning alms giving ceremony. The room was comfortable with wooden floors and the heavy beautiful Laos wooden furniture. Breakfast was great with eggs cooked to order, a selection of fruit and really delicious chewy baguettes.

Mostly I will echo what others are saying: the location is good - close enough to walk to all attractions, but still quiet (other than the roosters, but they didn't bother me). I had a room with a balcony overlooking the lovely garden. The room itself was very comfortable, with a safe, TV, fridge, hot water. The staff were all pleasant and helpful with questions. WiFi is slow, but that's not the fault of the hotel. I stayed here for 5 nights and loved it!
The monks walk for alms right by the hotel though beware of women wanting to sell you food to give to them (if you want to donate food to the monks, buy sticky rice in advance).

Room Tip: Try to upstairs, garden view

We stayed at Villa Chitdara for four nights while exploring Luang Prabang. It is a nice, quiet location along one of the primary routes for the monks alms each morning. It is also only a short walk (as is most everything in LP) to Tourist Street, the Night Market and many of the good restaurants along the peninsula. Breakfast included in the price and was quite good. Eggs made to order and very good coffee. The internet in the room was hit or miss but the room itself was very comfortable. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the main street, and the bathroom+shower was nice. From a value perspective, this was probably one of the best places we stayed on our trip to SE Asia. Only downside is there is no pool but that is common in LP and can be remedied with a day trip out to the amazing Kuang Si Falls!

We were booked into villa chitdara as part of a 10 day Laos tour with laostravel.com which is an outstanding tour company - one of best I've been with. Villa chitdara was outstanding as was all hotels on the tour. Villa chitdara was centrally located but off main streets so quiet except for roosters crowing in mornings - need earplugs as roosters were next door to our room.
But hotel was clean, professional staff, included good breakfast, air con as well as fans and a verandah. The gardens are delightful and well maintained. Laundry across the road is a bit expensive at 15000kips/kg but fast and good. Others tend to be 8000 to 10000kips.
Hotel rooms are large and tastefully furnished with safe and fridge, jug and free tea/coffee water etc. bathroom comes with soaps gels etc. wifi free and fast (most of the time). Bed very comfortable. Attention ito detail superb including towels on bed in form of swans on arrival - lovely touch. Also located in street that monks walk up at 530am each morning collecting alms. If you get a room along front u can watch it from your bed!

Room Tip: Try to book room along the front and in middle to get away from roosters at back of restaurant next door as very noisy in morning. We had back corner room (11) which was lovely but close to roosters. Alternately wear earplugs which is what we did.

The hotel is centrally located in old town but on a road without much traffic. The rooms have wooden floors that look like the top of a piece of furniture and are very nicely decorated. Note that the "restaurant" is only used for breakfast but there are many eating options within walking distance. The monk walk for alms in the morning (around 6 AM) passes in front of the hotel, visible from the front rooms and the rear rooms have a nice view of the garden space behind the hotel. Unfortunately while the hinged windows open, this option is limited since there is no screening. The wireless internet signal is strong from several routers at the hotel but the speed is often modest at best. Breakfast is modest and buffet style--you can ask for eggs to be prepared. I wish they had a few cereals to choose from--they only seemed to have a kid's chocolate flavored one during my week long stay. No cheese or meats are supplied for the baguettes and sliced bread that are served. There are 3 fruit spreads for the bread and fresh fruit is also served. Yogurt, milk, orange juice, tea and coffee is available. The front desk doors are closed around 10:30 PM but staff sleeps at the villa to handle any problems.

Room Tip: Rear rooms will face a green, tropical garden yard.
