A short, pleasant, walk from city centre.

Excellent buffet breakfast with vast choice.

My room was fine. Bar was good, with good choice of local beers, which pleased me 7 my friends.

This hotel was chosen for us by tour operator. It's a big hotel and the location is very good - walk down the hill through the park, then about three more blocks and you're in the dead center of the main drag in the center of the town. Another block and you're at the Opera House. The nearest tram was under major construction headed away from town so a taxi is necessary to get to the train station.
Rooms were clean, quiet and comfortable. A good breakfast buffet on the second floor, where a very long terrace/balcony runs nearly the width of the hotel. Great place to have some drinks and look out onto the park. The bar has good prices; there's a billiard room down a flight of stairs below the bar - know that in Ukraine smoking is still allowed inside and this area got pretty thick.

The staff is friendly, however very few speak English and their training/experience with customer service is a bit off, but I think they are slowly learning. We had a lot of problems trying to procure a taxi to take us to a theater, that by the time it arrived at the hotel we just cancelled the whole idea.

I don't know what alternatives were available, but we were satisfied overall and really liked the location. The town really is a treat, and the restaurants are very good and very reasonably priced. Some say that Krakow is the new Prague, and that L'viv is the new Krakow.

I stayed two nights in Hotel Dnister and chose it mainly because of its location near centre, coming from the airport. Officially it had four stars but in practice two stars would be more appropriate. The first room they gave me was a bit run-down but ok. The main problem was heat because the sun warmed it during whole day. There was some kind of an air-conditioning machine but it was so noisy that it was impossible to sleep or even watch tv when it was on.

Therefore, I asked to change rooms for the second night. The second room had a strong smell of stale cigarettes, window didn't close properly, and bathroom was rather ugly. At least it wasn't as hot as the first one.

The service was a bit Soviet-style but ok. Breakfast buffet had a lot of choice although the options were a bit too Eastern European for my taste.

When checking some other hotels, I got an idea that they are not necessarily better...

We travelled with family to LVIV and stayed in the Dnister hotel. Even though the hotel is not in the city center, it is very good for Ukranian standard.
They are renovating floor by floor so when you reserve , you should ask for renovated floors that are a little bit more expensive...
The majority of personnel does not speak foreign languages but they are very helpful . Breakfast is very generous. It needs a bit of decoration for modern western standards.
The walk to the city takes 10/15 mins , and you pass through a beautiful park.

The hotel is has a good location directly across from the street from the main city park and only a 5 minute work to the center shopping--tourist area. The hotel is clean and has been updated from its former Soviet days. Helpful staff and a good breakfast. Would definelty recommend and would stay here again.
