We stayed for ten days in the penthouse apartment and most of our experience was positive. When we arrived, there was milk , butter, bread and beer in the fridge plus tea and coffee and some jams. Also dish washer and washing machine tablets. The terrace, although not large, has lovely views . There are a lot of steps up to the apartment but Diana did help us. The supermarket is about 15 mins walk but easy to go down and a very steep climb back. I am fit but in the heat, it was a challenge with shopping. Beach again 20 mins walk to a lovely little beach but sun beds and parasols will knock you back nearly thirty pounds per couple. Also, steep walk back which applies to restaurants as well, which are ten to fifteen mins walk away, but we caught an Uber back, as my husband has health problems , which cost very little. On the subject of Uber’s, they are fantastic in the area, cost very little and usually arrive in a very few minutes.
On the less positive side of our experience, we were in the apartment for ten days and I would normally expect it to be cleaned once during that time, based on previous apartments we have rented. However, it wasn’t cleaned at all, and although there are plenty of towels, I washed some of these, I imagine if you wanted the bed changing, it is up to you as there are spare sheets etc. Also, I think , cleaning of bathrooms especially if staying with a family, would be needed. Perhaps I am fussy, but ten days is a long time and there were no items for cleaning. Another point, if you are hoping for tv channels, only one available in English was Skye news. Quite a few German channels. Also, lastly, which I do regard as important, the apartment is advertised as fully air conditioned, but the air conditioning was not working and I suspect hadn’t been for a while as it was set hopefully for 16 degrees. It was around 25 degrees at night, so , in order not to suffocate, we had to leave doors open and one door got a bit damaged in the high wind at night, for which I’m very sorry but it was because of lack of air conditioning. I am sure this is something that will be rectified as temperatures in summer are very high and it would be regarded as a necessity . Couple in apt below us, said their air conditioning wasn’t working either.
Sorry to criticise, but to end on a better note, bus to old town just at bottom of hill and bus no 6 runs frequently although we actually found for two of us, it wasn’t much more expensive to take Uber.
Hope this review is of some help to others. Sorry we didn’t meet the landlord as he was away .
Wow. Villa Diana is wonderful. We took the middle apartment with a double and a twin bedroom. There are previous reviews stating that the internal space isn't great, and I guess this might be true if the weather is not fine.
But we found it perfect for breakfast and lunch. Air conditioning in the main space and the double bedroom certainly helped during our stay.
However it's not just the accomodation that is wonderful, the host Ivica goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable. We arrived at the airport, and Ivica was arranging a transfer for us. The transfer didn't work out so Ivica picked us up himself; what a star.
The pool area is beautifully landscaped and is such a pleasant place to spend time.
There are bars and restaurants just 15 mins walk away, though please note Dubrovnik is hilly, so if you can't walk far use the bus (very frequent, although frequently busy) or Uber. We used Uber for the 1st time here in Dubrovnik, and the cars are wonderfully clean, and the drivers very polite and engaging. That said about the drivers is true of absolutely every local we met. The waiters and waitresses, the shop staff, the ferrymen, everyone is so friendly.
We will definitely be back to Dubrovnik, and we won't be staying anywhere else.
To see and do, there's lots, just check out Tripadvisors top 10 things. But our two favourite's was the old city (be aware the walls can be busy when there are cruise ships in, and it can take some time to walk around), and a ferry trip to Lopud.
Lopud is a beautiful island, and the ferry is cheap, but takes 55 minutes to get there and is very busy, so arrive early at the ferry terminal. It cost I think 56 HRK each for a return trip. The ferry leaves Dubrovnik at 10am, and returns at 3pm or 6.55pm.
I love this place, and Villa Diana makes it so much easier to enjoy and relax.
Don't look at any other reviews, book now.
A five star rating isn't enough for this little piece of Dubrovnik heaven. The penthouse apartment was big enough for our family of five. The wifi and air-conditioning were superb but the sun terrace was the absolute highlight. Looking out over the water, we saw the cruise ships come and go against a stunning backdrop of Croatian scenery. At night, the lights from the hillside and the cruise ships were just as stunning.
The swimming pool is two floors down with a communal kitchen area and well stocked fridge with cold drinks to buy at reasonable prices. There would be no need to eat out as the apartment had everything you'd need for cooking as well as a dishwasher and a washing machine - clothes dried in no time on the terrace.
Ivica, the owner, was lovely, helpful and friendly. He made us feel very much at home.
If you book this apartment, you can't help but love it and fall in love with the views. It is only about 10 minutes by car to the Old Town and about a 10 minute walk to the local resort which is packed with excellent bars and restaurants, lots of places to swim safely in the sea and beautiful views.
The only thing to be aware is that any walk at all - to the supermarket, the town or the beach - involves a very steep climb back up to the apartment. I'd say it's well worth it for the views, but in the heat, you do need to have some stamina for the climb. As a large family group, we travelled by taxi as it was good value for money but I heard that the buses were good.
Good place to stay and recreate after visiting Dubrovnik and other sights along the coast. The flat is spacious, clean and everything necessary is available. - The view from the terrace of the harbour with its big passengers ships, of the opposite coastal line, its mountains and the Franjo-Tuđman-Bridge is great. - The landlord is nice and helpful.
We had a brilliant stay at Villa Diana and the Penthouse apartment is beautiful. It was immaculate and the views from our own balcony were amazing. Ivica and his family are really lovely and it was a pleasure to meet them. If you are coming to Dubrovnik then I would definitely recommend staying here.
