The Old Pharmacy is located in the Franciscan Monastery which is on the left hand side just through the Pile Gate. The Pharmacy was used by the Franciscan monks to treat the brothers as well as the citizens of Dubrovnik. It is considered to be the oldest Pharmacy in Europe and is worth a visit, if you are interested in history and beautiful old buildings. It is quite remarkably, still a working chemist's for locals, and in the complex of the Franciscan Monastery where beautiful cloisters lead to the Old Pharmacy Museum by a pretty courtyard. There you'll find disturbingly large grinders and implements used by the medical profession in the Ragusan era. The colourful ceramic pots can be viewed on the open shelves and there is quite a collection. We visited on a rainy day and it is free if you have a Dubrovnic card.

The old pharmacy used by the Franciscans to treat their own brothers and also citizens, hundreds of years ago, is well worth seeing. The. Colourful ceramin pots and containers are still on the original shelves, alongside equipment for measuring and preparing herbs, drugs and potions. The cloister is a haven of peace, and the church is also worth a peep inside.

Not the most exciting of sites but an interesting collection of cultural insights into life in Dubrovnik. The pharmacy is interesting as one of the first in Europe and ladies seemed to find the modern pharmacy with its rose flavoured potions appealing.

The old pharmacy is not a faithful recreation but shows some interesting materials. Perhaps of more interest was the simple folder of photos of the damage done during the war in the 1990's.

At the very least, good to get away from the crowds and experience the quiet of the cloisters.

This is a nice place to escape the crowds.

Small entrance fee. It was pretty and interesting to see the museum and cool off in the shade.

Beware the crazy photo lady! You're not allowed to photograph the exhibits (on closer inspection there were tiny signs) and the woman behind the till REALLY hates people disobeying this rule! Oops...

For whatever reason we did not have to pay an entrance fee...maybe because it was off season. The court yard was very peaceful with beautiful pictures painted in the arches. The pharmacy museum was not much to see.
