Stayed two nights recently in this old hotel inside the old Diocletian Palace. It is the first hotel built. The rooms were small but clean and comfortable. Some had small windows looking at the narrow streets and alleys below and others had a balcony. The staff spoke good English and the service was friendly. There was a hotel restaurant in the basement which served good food, restaurant was part of the Roman ruins. Around the hotels there were streets and alleys full of restaurants and shops and it was also a very short walk out to the main promenade of Split right next to the sea. Only caution is that if the windows are left open, there are mosquitoes!

Room Tip: Some rooms have no Wifi reception!

The location is definitely not to be beaten, the room was spotless and WiFi acceptable. There, that's the good stuff.

Now the hotel might review its front desk staff, check that all light bulbs work, ensure that towels are not threadbare, and try to soundproof rooms from the cacaphony emanating from the restaurants less than 15 metres from your window.

This negates all of the good stuff because the good stuff is completely irrelevant if you cannot get to sleep.

Of course, as others have posted the hotel is hidden up a back alley and up about 15 slippery, narrow steps. Of course it is still the only hotel inside the old palace but that is really a case of "so what".

I stayed here with my teen sons in early, April for 2 days and had a great time. The hotel, the oldest in Split, is located literally in Diocletian's Palace and part of the original structure is exposed in the hotel's restaurant.

While a little tricky to locate from the street and not readily accessible by car, it is just steps from the waterfront and ferries and the airport bus stop is a short walk as is a rental car agency.

We stayed in a triple room, which, while not particularly spacious, was comfortable enough for us and featured TVs in both rooms and a decent bathroom along with an open air terrace with seating. Given its location and that we were there on a weekend, it was a little noisy in the late evening with pedestrian traffic below. Since we were lucky with the early Spring weather (low 70s and brilliant sunshine both days) we did not spend much time in the room.

The hotel itself is beautifully (albeit somewhat understatedly) decorated and rather modern, but it melds well with the palace and the restaurant in particular emits a sophisticated vibe.

A buffet breakfast with cook-to-order eggs was included and was quite good and there is a set menu dinner deal for guests that is a tremendous value and was excellent the night that we took advantage of it.

The staff was friendly and all spoke English (as does most everyone in Split) at least passably.

In all, I was very pleased with our choice and would heartily recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Accessing the lobby requires negotiating an outside set of stairs. There is an elevator to all floors in the hotel itself.

It was my first visit to this hotel. The reason for my arrival to Split was participation in Split Halfmarathon 2018. I was part of a larger group and we filled the entire hotel's capacity. The room was very clean and cosy and the staff was more than kind to us. Especially the guys from the reception, who even offered to organize a private touristic tours for couple of us, although it was not previously planned. Hotel's location is awesome, in the center of old town, within couple of minutes from riva. This proved to be very handy especially after the race, as the weather was very cold and we were able to rush to the hotel right after crossing the finish line. I am definitely planning to coming back here and it is my warm recommendation for you to give them a chance.

Room Tip: Rooms at higher floors have balconies.
