After less than an hour my friend and I checked out of the place. The booking.com description of the accommodation was so far from the truth that led us to prepay, it was unbelievable.

On check in we were told our towels would be changed every 3 days and 5 for sheets. Corridors felt unsafe and badly in need of renovation. Some were blocked by crime scene type tape. The lift needed replacing. Floor numbers had been written on next to the buttons, but as that had worn off a piece of papaer had been stuck to the wall.
The beds in the room were unmade. Sheets and cover just left on the end of the bed. No bedside lights, tea/coffee making, telephone or safe in the room. Water view we paid for was non existent only a view was an old solar panel infrastructure.

We approached booking.com for a refund with no success. Now the only option on their site is pay at hotel. If that was available to us we wouldn’t have had to have gone to the expense of paying 5 nights in another hotel as well as being ripped off for paying for this place. I WILL NEVER USE BOOKING.COM AGAIN !!!!!

Reviews on the company’s site give high ratings but the CON comments outweigh the PRO ones.

We stayed there twice during August 2018 having pre booked both visits for a car tour of Croatia. The hotel is awful. It is overpriced for what you get. Problems:
1. Beds not made up on arrival (twice).
2. Room not cleaned during our stays.
3. No space in bathroom to put anything.
4. One of the lifts does not work and got me stuck between floors.
5. Evening meal buffet turned out to be just dome bits of luke warm pork that were left over (we did not arrive late) and the juice dispenser provided only water, there was no dessert course of any sort provided, there was no coffee after the meal provided.
6. Receptionist got the bill wrong and I had to show her on paper how to add up some numbers.
7. Bare, empty corridors.
8. Cracked and dirty flooring and walls in public areas.
9. Only certain parts of the hotel were open. the rest was obviously not in use and had not been for some years by the look of it.
10. No sink plug in the room's bathroom.
11. By the look of it, the place was once a communist workers' hotel and somewhat austere. Great cavernous spaces and nothing in them.
Truly dreadful - do not stay at Hotel Zagreb under any circumstances.

Room tip: Stay at a different hotel. This one is awful.

The service was great and the beach was close, but that was about it. We changed the hotel after one night. It was far from everything, no restaurant's near by or shopping etc. The pictures of the hotel is taken by a pro and is nothing like the place really is. On the outside it looks abandoned. The room was ok, really small.
Maybe for a pitstop for one night it's good but not for a vacation.

For what you get. The Hotel is very old and even though they renovated some of the rooms there were still things like: the elevator - see the attached picture, no access towards the park and beach through the hotel, the hotel looks very worn from the outside and the way down to the beach goes past the water treatment facility.

Dear Sir, Thank You for sharing Your concerns with us.
We deeply regret that Your experience here did not meet Your expectations. Following Your remarks, we must point out that
we have invested significant material and human resources in order to raise
the overall service to an even greater level. We have completely renovated 56
Standard rooms overlooking the city and the sea, large ballroom, kitchen and
technical parts of the facility, a part of the exterior facade and will soon renovate a large number of
remaining accommodation units, as well as some of the guest-rooms. New elevators are also planned.
As far as prices are concerned, I must point out that we are more favorable than the competition. Many of our guests, if you look at reviews on well-known websites, say they are extremely satisfied with the price and quality ratio, but You have a different opinion and we accept it. Anyway, we will take into account Your remarks and we will try to be even better. We truly hope that You will allow us the
opportunity to serve you again. Kind regards, Dora Reić, Front-office manager

The hotel Zagreb is very old and you can see it every way you go the elevator is old and very scared to use. The Holloway is not always with light in the night so bring a flashlight with you. The food is normal no problem
