Owner description: Galerija Meštrović houses the masterpieces of Ivan Meštrović carved in marble, bronze and wood. The house was built based on Meštrović's design (1931 - 1939), and was intended to be his family summer residence, working studio and exhibition space. It is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden which, with its bronze sculptures and the view of the sea and of central Dalmatian islands makes a unique example of landscape architecture.

My mum, my 2 kids (5 and 9) and I went here yesterday. The whole day was brilliant. You can walk, along Riva, to Sustipan park, cut through the park and out the other side, around the hotel which I think is called hotel jardan and then back onto the coastal path. Following that around to a quite large beach area where there is a restaurant gives a set of stairs up to the main road and directly opposite is this lovely gallery.

The garden includes many wonderful pieces, plus has fantastic views of the sea. The main house has more excellent works to view. It was very quiet - somewhat reminiscent of the Rodin museum in Paris, on a slightly smaller scale.

There is a cafe above the entrance office also, with lovely views.

Leaving the gallery and heading to the right, away from split centre, you'll shortly see a road to the right with a set of steps at the end. Head up, climb the steps, take a right and very soon, just between a house and a boating shop of some kind, you'll see a fairly uninspiring path to the left. Don't be discouraged by its unauspicious looks!

Head up there, follow the winding and sometimes steep path and you'll find yourself after 15 mins or so on one of Marjan hill's main paths. Turn right heading down the hill and you'll pop out back on Riva again after a lovely downhill walk.

It was a great way to spend the day with the gallery as our focal point. Highly recommend.

We were in Split a few days before out Katalina tour began and visited this gallery for a couple hours. Very talented man and prolific in his work. Many items of his work on display, the grounds and setting (views), very nice. Worth the visit if you've already toured Diocletian's palace etc.

We were so fortunate that our tour guide changed a few things around so that we could to to this gallery. His work is emotional and beautiful. We had had a talk about his before we went to the gallery which helped a lot. Took a cab from the boat dock and walked back (which took about 35 minutes). You can take pictures - took a lot of them.

.. filled with evocative sculptures. I'm not a particular seeker out of sculpture but I'm glad we found this one. We walked there from Split, took about 20 minutes and well worth it. Also, after visiting this place walk on a bit further, about 8 minutes, and visit the chapel associated with it. Again, so evocative.

Treat yourself to a lovely half day out. Walk along the Marina and then along the coast taking in superb views. After 20mins, walk up to the road and this magnificent Museum. The building and views are outstanding and the the sculptures on a par with Rodin. Absolutely beautiful in every respect. A true must see
