As you will see in the photos itis lovely. what an amazing artcollection. the city itself is so sweet and gorgeous.
Now, the hotel... Room had no window and noair. Was next to the aviary so we heard birdfights all night as we attempted sleep. They would not serve us a cocktail by the pool. we had to sit in the dark monestary bar to have wine after lunch. Stay away from room 204. They lock the doors at 11pm so you have to stand outside and ring , and ring, and ring if you want to get in.
If the hotel wasnt so lovely it would have been hell.. stay at panza verde!
checkout the photos for great grounds, flowers ,and artwork!!

Casa Santo Domingo, in Antigua, Guatemala, was the highlight of my stay in Guatemala. An old Franciscan monastery; it is filled with religious artefacts and paintings, making it quite unique as a hotel because it is a museum as well. The rich collection that Casa Santo Domingo houses is quite important, complete and very old. The rooms are absolutely wonderful, with vaulted ceilings, wooden beams, beautiful chimneys, and patios that open out onto luscious tropical courtyards. Walking around the hotel was a real delight. Because one goes past bubbling fountains, flowered patios, stone-paved courtyards, beautiful arched corridors, and walls of religious paintings and niches crammed with relics, to finally step out onto the cobble-stoned streets of lovely white-washed colonial Antigua. Making it a perfect stay in this charming part of Guatemala. I highly recommend it.

We had a room with a jacuzzi. It was massive and gorgeous, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The hotel is a stunner.

After more than a week in Guatemala we arrived in Antigua and the Casa. The front desk had the wrong reservation dates -- they issued the confirmation -- and even better they issued keys to a room that was already in use. When we tried to order a coffee maker (twice) in the Jr. Suite we had it never semed to arrive. Our room bill was over charged by $200USD and it took the manager more than an hour to figure it out which he wasn't able to do before we had to catch the shuttle out. I would go for the location and the grounds are really super but the staff was far less than five-star. Antigua we will be back but not at the Casa.

This is a fine hotel by any measure, but certainly as compared to any other hotel we visited in Guatemala (the Camino Real and the Intercontinental in Guatemala City, La Lancha near Tikal, the Camino Real near Tikal, etc.).

It is a bit expensive for Guatemala, but well worth the splurge. Others have commented on the grounds (e.g. a beautiful old monastery), which really are lovely. The place is an oasis, especially after a day of touring around town or visiting the nearby sites. The rooms are spacious, nicely appointed and comfortable (although you should try to avoid the rooms on the first floor --the "planta baja"-- as they are a bit dark). For families, the hotel does offer some connecting rooms. We had a suite connecting to a double room, and it worked great for a family of five.

The restaurant is lovely, with a very open feel. The breakfast buffet is great, and this was often the best meal of the day. We also had several dinners at the hotel because we loved the setting (we enjoyed the "plato chapin"). The Sunday brunch is particularly good. My only gripe about the restaurant is that the coffee is terrible, even though fine coffee is grown in Antigua.

The property also has a nice pool area, with bar service on weekends (which could be improved).

Famed Antigua tour operator Elizabeth Bell has her offices (Antigua Tours) on the premises, which makes planning activities very easy (you should consult her before making your reservations and plans for your Guatemala trip).

While this hotel is not cheap, and therefore not for everybody, if you can afford the place, you really will enjoy your stay.
