I always spend a couple of nights on Nantucket every July before heading over to the Cape for a family get together. Finding lodgings on the island always gives me the heebies, this time was no different. It is super expensive even for the dingiest rooms. I travel all over the world and really do not get why these inns are so expensive. I mean, over $250 a night for a small room with a double bed and a shared bathroom? I always hear the excuse that it's because to the architectural integrity or something or other. When I travel to Europe I routinely stay in places that were built in the 14th century, they all have bathrooms. Anyway, what bothered me most was that grumpy attitude by everyone. I concur with the other contributors about that sad breakfast, No effort put into it whatsoever. I saw the owner once, at checkout, ho hello, no welcoming smile, he was hosing down the pavement in front of the restaurant and was truly annoyed when he had to stop hosing and let us (and our luggage) pass. It is so sad that with all that money made, so little effort made that everyone is still so grumpy. The pretentiousness is truly breathtaking, especially for such a little dump.
