After a long day of driving, we pulled up to the run-down hotel (horribly maintained on the outside). I used our digital key and was unable to get in though the side door. We called the front desk about this later, and they said they knew about it. It would have been nice if there was a sign or anything indicating that digital keys wouldn't work on that door as we stood there and tried for several minutes before lugging all of our stuff around the corner.

Upon entering our room, we were treated with a 78 degree room as the AC and fans were all turned OFF. It was hot and humid in there and we started sweating immediately. We were also on the ground floor and the windows were not locked and had a small opening. I'm glad we noticed this as it didn't seem like a nice neighborhood. Having a guest room where anybody could walk by and get in through the window is a huge safety concern for our family. There were also a couple of flies in the room the entire stay due to them getting in through the windows before I closed them.

There was a access panel open in the closet which looked like it would let all sorts of mice/rats in. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Even the thermostat on the wall was filthy. The silverware was dirty and rusted, the stovetop was dirty. Luckily, there was that "Hilton Clean" sticker on the bathroom mirror.

I emailed the hotel and received a simple reply of “we’ll take this under consideration”.

When the management gives up, it’s no wonder why the hotel is in the state it’s in.

Room tip: Avoid this hotel at all costs! Under the nearest bridge would be just as safe and probably cleaner

Pool clothed as they did not let you know that ahead of time as it's their main amenity. Complimentary breakfast will be eaten by the staff and hoarded by their family. Room smelled like cigarettes the entire two days we stayed. The one morning we say nothing in the breakfast area worked. Just look pay that extra $30 to stay somewhere that is being maintained a little more properly and has a working pool in the summer that should have been notified on the site.

Dilapidated facilities - obviously and dangerously broken furniture in room, pool inoperable with no water in late June, room smelled bad - like stale milk/vomit, was not offered standard Hilton Gold benefits at check in like complimentary water or upgrade even though hotel was empty. Hotel said they couldn’t make room keys or do anything to remedy the dangerous room situation because the computer system was down. Manager didn’t do anything next day either even when I showed photos of the broken furniture with spit wood and exposed nails. We checked out two days early.

As a Hilton Diamond Rewards Member, I was extremely disappointed with this facility. No housekeeping, trash overflowing the outside trash cans, poor breakfast - not the usual Homewood Suites quality. I recommend that you stay somewhere else.

We had to book an urgent trip to the North Andover area for our dog to receive medical attention, and Homewood Suites is where we ended up. We chose it because it was pet friendly, fairly priced, and in close proximity to our veterinary location we were traveling to.

A few days before, I looked up the hotel again to see all of the horrible reviews and started to get really anxious about the possible condition of our room and the hotel. We called the hotel, and asked for their honesty in the condition of the rooms, if the issues in the negative reviews were resolved. She was really nice and reassured us that we would not be experiencing any issues, the pot issue was resolved, and that their cleaners take their job seriously. She recommended changing our 1st floor room request to the 3rd floor because it would be quieter. We were traveling with two dogs, so we weren't happy about it, but it made more sense to switch.

When we arrived, the check-in process was seamless and the receptionist was nice. Our room was spotless, very clean (and I am picky!). The end-table in front of the couch was a little wobbly, but who cares. Water ran great in the shower, sink, etc. And the 3rd floor was quiet, as she told us it would be.

Our only complaints would be, that NOBODY picked up after their dogs used the bathroom. One visitor even watched his dog go, and walked the other way when he was done. There was dog poop everywhere, and we did not see any employee acting as a yard maintenance person. We told the secretary when we left that they need to install a pet station with poop bags and a designated trash can; and also that they need to reinforce the policy. Also, nobody had their dogs on leash. Not one person, which is a set up for failure for other dog owners. Our dogs are currently in training, and we had no option but to stay at a hotel for this trip, and this made things very difficult for us. I also told her about this as well, that this is not a safe thing to allow. She told me that it is in the policy. But of course, nobody is enforcing these things. We were outside a lot with our dogs, and there was never one person checking for leashes, or cleaning up their dog's poop. So we always had to clean our shoes and dog's feet when we came back inside.

And the property did have trash spread out on the lawns - not everywhere, but enough. Little alcohol bottles, normal trash, cigarettes, even a little drug baggie, glass, etc. So yes, they need a 24/7 groundskeeper.

We think there are a handful of people that live there as well, which isn't a negative thing. But some of the people were sketchy, but majority were okay. We did not feel unsafe at any point.

Oh, and for our first two days there was no pot smell. But it did happen our third night there for a couple hours - very strong. Maybe someone who lives there? So that issue was not resolved.

My husband ate the breakfast one morning and he said there were a TON of options and a worker even offered him fresh squeezed juice. He said it was good quality.

So, to summarize: Okay location, decent price, needs more attention with their "pet-friendly" policies with dog-poop, and leash rules, hiring a full time groundskeeper, and enforcing rules with long-term stayers.

Room tip: Our room was #321 and was right next to the ice machine. Didn't bother us though.
