If you traveled quite a lot and seen this kind of view before then I doubt it's worth the visit in the heat. However, on the other hand if you are new to this kind of viewing then it's probably worth it.

The climb was worth it. Spectacular views of the city and the locks. Saw a Toucan, three toed sloth and a Capybara just off the road during the walk back down. Lots of other birds and lizards.Pity the peak is fenced off but, you can still get good views. Take water, it gets hot. There are benches along the way that you can rest at in the shade.

The hike to the top of the hill is not difficult but well over a mile. The road up is cemented and fenced so there was little wildlife to be seen. Even with water it was exhausting in the heat. We were disappointed that the area around the flag had been fenced off so we did not get a good panoramic few of the city. Only the New City and parts of the canal were visible. If you take a taxi, or better yet Uber to the trailhead, instruct them to drop you off at the Canal Authority Administration Building on Gorgas Road. The building is beautiful, and cool, in itself and the trail starts up the hill from there.

We had the perfect time hiking up 2 km with our kids (4 & 6 years). The road is asphalt and the trees offer shade, there are also some benches on the way to relax and enjoy the vistas. It took us about 1.5 hours to climb to the top with the children - we walked more like turtles :) I think without them the trip would not have been more than 30 minutes. On the top of the hill there is the Flag of Panama, sitting area with wonderful views of Panama City, Casco Viejo and on the other side to the Panama Canal - Miraflores locks and the Centennial Bridge. There are bathrooms and there was a local marketer selling water, cola and panamanian molas (colorful hand stitched artwork). We had a quality time and definitely will be going back again. We have encountered tourists and locals, some of them on bikes, some pushing strollers. It is definitely worth to go! We left our car at the Quarry Heights security gate and walked.

Parking at the foot of the hill right outside the residential area, we walked all the way up to the top of the hill. It was quite a hike up there since the temperature there was always in the high 80s degrees. However, there were lots of trees and shade on the trail so it was not so bad. When you reached the top, the hill opened up to offer a panaromic view of the city. Make sure you bring a bottle of drinking water to keep yourself hydrated.
