I stayed for over a week for a conference and I was very pleased with everything, but unfortunately most areas are affected by a smell of mould you don't get used to even after a whole week!
It's my understanding that the problem is worse at the higher floors, but you can smell it in the lobby by the elevators too.
Other than that, it's a beautiful, modern hotel with a lovely pool, the staff is very friendly and helpful (althoug I wouldn't call the service 5*) and the rooms are quite spacious and very comfortable.
The conference space is not the best I've seen but served its purpose.
The location is great, very central, near shops and restaurants. A tip if yiu're getting a taxi to or from the Riu...hail one around the corner and have them drop you off at a shop nearby. It will instantly bring the fare from $15 to $3!

I stayed there last month for the first time just for a day. Just booked 2 days for next week on my way to Ecuador. I think everyone speaks English and are always helpful. Everyone talks about the great breakfast but little mention of the food and wine in the little place facing the lobby.

The decor starts in the lobby and right through the rooms.

This place will stand out in your mind for a very long time!

Just returned from a four night stay at the Riu. Got a good deal on the web (had to still call to make sure I had a 'family' room) included breakfast; internet access is free.
The lobby is spacious and nice looking as is the bar in the same.
The room was good sized and accomodated a king size bed and a sofa bed.
The pool was OK and had very good service for towels and drinks.
The breakfast buffet included all the ameniteis and food you would expect, including omletes; cheeses; meats; fruits and cereal.
There was an option to get Executive Lounge access for $30/day which allowed breakfast there; some snacks, water and alcohol till about 9pm.
The location is on the main street and you probably have to take a taxi to get anywhere. The restaurants within walking distance include Sukhi (Thai) and some Japanese and Italian resaturants.

Room Tip: Ask for an executive room (located on high floor)

We booked here because the conference we were attending was here, but we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Friendly staf, very modern amenities, nicely appointed rooms, and an AWESOME breakfast! When we return, we will book here.
