I've stayed many times in Lybed, because it is close to our office in Kyev.
It is 1980 hotel after renovation,
It isn't very nice but affordable.
Everything working

Good value for price they ask.

Very good breakfast

Close to the railway station, not far from the center of the city, not far from subway
You need to mention that you need non-smoking room in advance
DON'T USE RAIFFEISEN CASH MACHINE in the Lobby, my card was blocked by bank afterwards

Stayed here for 3 nights in March 2011. The location is very good- between the main Railway Station and Universitet Metro (250 m along the boulevard- other complaining guests appear to be geographically challenged!) The bulding itself is a Soviet relic and has service to match; staff are polite and diligent, but rarely grinning from ear to ear. I don't really consider this to be a problem- this is pretty much par for the course throughout the Former Soviet Republics.

The room itself was small but clean. However, the towels provided were small and the duvet was not in proportion to the size of the bed. The room was also rather hot, although this would probably be less evident in the middle of winter.

The breakfast was good- plenty of choice and lots of it, although I conceed that you would probably get bored of it after a week or so. It was included in the room price- whilst other hotels charge circa 60-80 grivna per head (£5-7/$8-11) and so doesn't stand much complaint.

The Lybid was excellent value for what I paid for it- nowhere near the advertised rack rates. I would stay here again at the same price, but would not pay the advertised rates (how many hotels actually do a lot of walk up trade?) which is pretty much the way I feel about most places I stay, unless they are truly exceptional.

Good place, near downtown. Metro station 3 min from hotel. Just usd 20 to airport by taxi.
Very poor breakfast :( and very wild night club with talented young dancers :)

Room Tip: Take higher floor. Its better.

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2012

My wife and I stayed 4 days in this hotel in February 2012. The choice of hotel was of my Ukrainian partners and I can't say that we enjoyed our stay at all! The hotel is advertised as very centrally located, but don't expect easily to get to the city centre by feet, there is no nearby metro station either. It's an old Soviet style big and ugly 3-star-hotel with 273 rooms (32 out of them - suites) and a bunch of strange guys (security - in uniforms and casual dresses) hanging always around the main entrance. The elevator is also operated only with your room card, forget to use if you don't have it with you. We had reserved a double room, but when we got into the room on the 9th floor it turned out that it's a single room - very small in size (so small that I didn't have the space to catch the entire room on a photo), with smaller in size bed, with a blanket not enough for two in size and one pair of towels. The air-conditioner in the room was awfully noisy, apart from this you could hear your neighbours! After spending a terrible night there we moved to junior suite on the 14th floor that looked a little better, but had hairs on the sofa and the toilet was somehow placed under the sink... Well, at least we had a better window view. The staff in general was kind - only the receptionist who did our check-in was not kind at all when I asked if the room we are in is single or double. The breakfast was ok, but don't expect variety - it was very much the same every day. I could accept such things if we speak about an economy hotel, but the prices of the hotel are not cheap, for the same prices you can get much better 3-star-hotels like Rus or Salute for instance... Not to mention that you have to pay in advance for all your stay right on the day of your arrival! The only good things that I could say about this hotel apart from the kind personnel is the view from the window and the fact that it's easily accessible by car from many sides which is a big plus for a city with big traffic jams like Kiev. I wouldn't visit hotel Lybid again and recommend you to avoid it too.

Room Tip: 1408 is relatively good
