Simply don't understand all the raves Fare Suisse gets. The innkeeper was late meeting us at the airport and we had to call to get picked up. Absence of televison is conducive to a "getting away from it all" feeling. This is a "no frills" experience at best but a decent value as compared to the big overpriced hotels in Papeete. The bedroom was clean but poorly lit and smelled mildewy. The beds were not very comfortable and the linens/towels were pretty standard. The 80m walk up the uneven dirt road with large ruts is pretty dangerous in the dark as it is unlit and a neighbor's aggressive dog gets loose occasionally and threatens people in transit to the Fare Suisse so walk slowly, carry a flashlight, and have a big stick to hold off the dog. The bathroom has about a 10 watt bulb in it and the sink is tiny but the rain head shower is quite good. The refrigerator in the guest kitchen is old and barely keeps anything cool. The freezer is inoperative. Beer available on the honor system but not very cold. Breakfasts are basic with a few slices of ham and cheese, good coffee and juice, chunks of baguette with 2 jellies, cream cheese, and butter, granola cereal, yogurt (not low fat) and some fruits. Employees nice enough but have a challenge with English language. Room was not serviced on one day (towel replacement, trash emptied). The no cost taxi service is appreciated as long as it fits into innkeeper's schedule. Telephone to innkeeper's residence frequently goes unanswered. Front desk not manned afternoons and evenings. Best feature is the interesting people one meets here, folks of all ages, backgrounds, nationalities, and travel experience.

Room Tip: Pizzaria next to the musee pearl is good. Be careful of the food at les roulettes. Market was fun with some good buys on pareo's, pearls, postcards, and trinkets.

We booked our one night in Papeete here before our cruise through the islands. Beni picked us up at the airport (included) and had us at the pension quickly. He showed us to our room and explained in detail everything we needed to know. Stayed in a beautiful modern room with a nice bathroom. Slept like babies after our long flight, that is, until the roosters started their morning ritual. We laughed at how early they made their presence known. Had a nice breakfast (extra) and then made the short walk to the city center. When it was time to go to our cruise, Beni was right there and drove us within steps of the ship. Outstanding service. Would not think of staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: We had the room around back. Think it was named Raiatea. Very quite and secluded from other rooms.

I realy enjoyed the days in Fare Suisse. The stay there was the best place to start and end of my trip to the Marquesas
The atmosphere in Fare Suisse is very friendly. The rooms are nice and clean, they are reasonably priced and worth the money.

There was no need to think about transportation to / from the airport and to / from the Aranui. Beni organized this perfect, reliable - and free!

And, most important for me: It is easy to make new friends here and to find good travel companions

We just stayed at Fare Swiss few nights in June 2011 on our way to Maupiti and Bora Bora and one night on the way to Poland, but we were very satisfied. Every time Beni picked us up from the airport and brought us back. This is really great advantage. We had a nice cozy room. Everything very well-kept and clean. Beni was so kind to keep some stuff during our trip to Bora Bora. Wonderful service! We would like to recommend Fare Swiss to everyone who wants to stay in a small, centrally located pension with excellent service. You can reach downtown in just 10-15 minutes walk.

We really enjoyed our stay in Fare Suisse, it was wonderful to be picked up from the airport after such a long flight
and really appreciated being dropped off at the ferry port the next day. Lovely clean, comfortable rooms and breakfast
service was excellent. We would definitely recommend to other travellers.
