“Nice new house - need a car to get to places”
Reviewed 13 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Good value compared to a resort but a few maintenance issues in the new house still being ironed out: hot water didn't work straight away, internet flaky (Fiji though). Noisy neighbours. Basically great for older kids but with toddler was easier in resort where you can just step out to things. But was great having separate room and that's the reason we got it. Nice and new inside.

Thank you for the review :)

I am very sorry the neighbours were noisy. That is a first for them, but I have messaged them to make sure they take that in to consideration on future trips. And yes internet in Fiji can be flaky, but it's not much better than that at the resorts half the time. ha! Maui Bay will be getting 4G towers in the coming year which will hopefully fix that.

Otherwise, I do hope everything else was Ok. We love as a family having a house rather than having to pay for two hotel rooms, as you mentioned, and that's one of the main reasons we opened up our home. We want to give families a more budget friendly option, especially with a private communal space and self-catering.

We stayed for a week, a week of being very well looked after by both the owners (checking in with us that all was well via email) and at the property by Luisa the housekeeper. Our 16 month old had a wonderful time and did not have one single bump or bruise from playing in and around the property - it is very kid friendly with the open plan and great kids bedroom, it is also stocked with toys and books and child appropriate DVDs, kitchen stuff and highchair.

The weather was rainy, foggy, sunny, windy and the house worked perfectly regardless of the outside weather. we were warm when it cooled down and cool when it warmed up. The house is very well ventilated so it does not feel damp when the rain sets in for a couple days running. We had mosquito nets with us but these were provided and we didn't need them at all during this stay.

We found the trick to the hot water is turning it on full, all the way over and all the way out, this triggers the instant gas hot water and then you can adjust it back from there.

Luisa is the property caretaker and she was there each day to tidy up for us and make sure we were stocked with clean towels and clean dishes. She was very helpful and bonded with our daughter. She is a reliable cook and will make what you wish, but if you don't need Fijian portions, let her know otherwise you'll be eating that meal over the next two days! We haven't had a holiday with a housekeeper/cook/nanny included (and I wasn't sure if it was included in the price because it sounded too good to be true at first) and now I want one every holiday! It was home away from home but without the daily routine of cleaning and feeding three people three times a day.

Alia is a wonderful property host. She was keen to ensure we were happy and content and checked in with us along the way. They've created a great vibe with good quality fittings and decorations, in a way that all works together and creates a wonderfully down to earth costal feel with a lovely Fijian vibe without turning it into another typical Fijian tourist place. I must tell you, the towels are huge and the beds are too! The home comforts are not sacrificed here.

The supermarket at the bottom of the hill had most things as any of the Sigatoka supermarkets and the Jack Fruit Curry at takeaway near the supermarket is fantastic for a quick snack. If you get to the servo not long after the fresh bread arrives you can also score a fresh cream bun, but be quick other wise the next bongo van with giant rugby players that comes alone will scoff the lot of them in one bite!

We didn't use the club house so I can't recommend that. Meals at DeVos Private Residence (last property closest to the service station in the first Maui Bay gate) are excellent value and are delicious. They are between $15 - $30 a meal for a main and I would recommend ordering early if you are hungry as it's a small kitchen, but worth the wait.

Summing it up in a handful of words; GREAT value for money, wonderfully chilled vibe, easy for the kids, we would definitely return and confidently recommend this place.

Thank you very much for the lively review! We loved having you!

I'm so glad you liked the house and that Luisa took good care of you. Please do contact us the next time you are in Fiji and thank you for the great advice regarding the hot water.

P.S. Yes that curry is surprisingly good! ha!

“Great fun for the family”

This vacation rental helped make our great vacation. My self, my husband and our 3 year old had a great time. It was way more comfortable then hotel because after we put our girl down we had the rest of the house to enjoy. We also really enjoyed having the pool associated with the house. My husband had a great time surfing at a close break before we would start our days of fun. We rented a car so we could maximize our time doing all the fun stuff the area has to offer. We cooked a fair bit in the nicely appointed kitchen but it was nice having some nice resorts near by to go out to eat when we did not want to cook. If we make it back to Fiji we will make sure to stay at Taylor Ridge again.
