I had stayed at Hostel Kennedy on my first Fiji trip in 2003, and came back 8 years later, expecting same service and prices.
At that time, I was met at the airport at 4am, great service.
This time however, the story was totally different. I called the hotel's number (which comes up on Google Maps), and got a rate, which was way higher than at a well known hostel booking website. Then, obviously, I booked via the website. I got a confirmation, a telephone number, an email address and a name, which I phoned one day before, to arrange airport pickup. Arriving at Nadi airport, I was met by an obese effeminated gentleman, who invited me to his office upstairs. Strangely he started to phone the hotel (????) to see if someone was coming for me. When I showed him the number I got with my reservation, he said "this is our number here, but we are a travel agency, not the hotel". Then he suggested that I took a taxi and the hotel would refund me.
I then took the taxi, and upon arriving at the hotel, I spoke to the person encharged, who said I had obtained totally wrong information. He explained me that some individual claiming to be the hotel was intermediating between them and that website, with purpose of getting commission and mislead customers, and the question was being investigated by local Police.
I stayed the first night at the hotel, paying a rate that was 80% over my budget, and left the following morning to Nadi Downtown Backpackers.
