While the property was perfect for location, for anyone traveling to Machu Picchu it is important to be able to trust the hotel that is holding your luggage when you head up for the day. We found out the morning of Check Out there is no one at the front desk and the gentlemen who took our luggage to store it for the day did not speak English. When we returned after our tour of Machu Picchu - we were astounded to find out their team had gone through our luggage and attempted to access our computers until they finally were locked out by security for failed sign in attempts and drained the batteries. This has not happened to us in years when travelling especially when we are paying these types of prices for this property.

Room Tip: No elevators so need to climb stairs for some rooms. Train runs next to hotel until 11 PM

This hotel is truly unique, beautiful, with great personality and an amazing location. The dinner and breakfast were very good, but we did have better in other parts of Peru. I took one star away as I found he hotel to be unresponsive to a simple email question, and found their staff to be less helpful and welcoming than others. That said, Id recommend a stay here strongly - a good value and beautiful property.

A strong recommendation - the bar and bar view of the trains is awesome - if you can't afford dinner, definitely have a drink!

The setting is so unique at the train station. You eat watching the Machu Picchu trains coming and going. The property is fascinating to walk and see the working far, truly special and unique. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Lived everything.

We stayed at El Albergue for two nights in March 2017. The day in between we went to Machu Piccu, and for that the location is hard to beat -- the hotel is right next to the station where you board the train to Machu Piccu, and you can walk from the lobby onto the platform. This means it is a half mile walk to the village of Ollataytambo, but it is not a difficult walk. The room was not fancy but was spotless and comfortable. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant both nights, and the food was good. The rooms are off of a lovely garden, and are surprisingly quiet given the proximity to the railroad. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again if we returned to Ollantaytambo.

We found our room to be very comfortable, with a beautiful garden area outside the door. The breakfast was included, very good cooked to order. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant, they use fresh ingredients from their farm. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful.
