We stayed at the El Albergue Ollantaytambo on the way back from Macha Picchu by rail. The hotel is located at the train station. The rooms were great, the food great, the service great, and it's a fun town to explore. It's all so charming. The old town is in walking distance from the hotel. This is the best place to stay in Ollantaytambo. We walked to town on the old trail, visited the garden, and distillery. We also purchased some of the liquor in the gift shop of the hotel to bring back, too.

We loved our time in this sweet and rustic albergue with an excellent restaurant. It was a little pricey for the quality but is very conveniently located for an early train ride to Aguascalientes. The town is much nicer for an overnight stay than Aguascalientes and you can explore the wonderful hikes around Ollantaytambo ruins. You can get there by walking out the back of the hotel and straight onto the Inca Trail. They can also recommend free hikes in the area at additional ruins.

The views of Mt. Veronica are incredible from the shared balcony in front of room 12. It is worth it to splurge on the nicer rooms in the back of the hotel if you can afford it. Still they are a bit rough around the edges (broken or worn tiles, cheap shampoo, no conditioner...that kind of thing) so you might not like to stay if you are picky about these thing (a good alternative would be the less conveniently located Tambo Del Inca resort in Urubamba). The hotel was clean though and there were nice white bathrobes.

The hotel has a lovely courtyard garden. The wifi in the rooms doesn't work but they did provide me with a password for the lobby wifi and that worked fine.

We also had a wonderful meal in the restaurant. They make fresh pasta and the ambience is quaint. You can watch trains arrive and leave. It does feel like you are experiencing a piece of the past during your visit.

we stayed here for 3 nights.... it is bit far from city centre but just on train station. the floor seems to be old and wash room is small.

food selection is limited but was tasteful. Service is good and reception was friendly.

Breakfast is good ....

Room Tip: away from station to reduce the noise from train

Hotel offered basic facilities. Rooms centered around a pretty garden area. Hotel advertised WiFi but there was none working when we stayed there. We only stayed here for one night which was fairly noisy for many reasons - other guests in the main. Breakfast was poor. Evening meal was ok with some choice for vegetarians.

We stayed one night in El Ollantaytambo prior to getting our train the following morning for the one day hike to Machu Picchu. This place was a real surprise for all good reasons. Its entrance is directly off the station platform and it frankly does not look particular promising from the outside. However one inside you enter a different world. The staff were attentive and helpful. Our rooms were large and airy and the beds were comfortable. The courtyard garden is nice and provides somewhere to sit protected from the chaos outside. Yes it is noisy from the trains but they do stop running over night and as we were leaving very early the following morning they helped us to get out of bed on time. I would very much recommend for the one night.

Room Tip: All rooms are noisy when the trains go through the station
