“This an amazing refuge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2012

You might be surprised to think a hotel right next to the train could be a little sanctuary but it is. This place is gorgeous. The gardens are incredibly beautiful. The rooms were very clean and beautiful. The down comforters and pillows felt like I was sleeping in a cloud. I would definitely stay here again. The food in the restaurant was some of the best I had on my whole trip. The suite is worth the extra money. No question, I would love to stay here again.

Room Tip: The extra money for a ground floor suite is well worth it, the garden is spectacular

What an amazing hotel in a perfect little town. The room (16) was lovely, with a modern bathroom, and it was very peaceful, with a deck overlooking a magical garden. The staff was beyond helpful (they arranged a car to pick us up at the Cusco airport and then another to take us through Maras back to Cusco a few days later). The restaurant was fantastic. And the location couldn't be beat if you're taking the train to Machu Picchu--it's right on the tracks! But the trains stop at night, and the back of the hotel (with the garden) was very peaceful. It's a little walk uphill to the center of town, but the road is alongside a rushing stream and it was no trouble, even on our first day in the mountains. Most highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room 16--second floor, with a big deck overlooking the garden.

We had a wonderful, rustic, and charming room with a small balcony/sitting area. There are gorgeous gardens to walk around, a eucalyptus sauna, and it is in the train station, so getting on board couldn't be easier. We had the option of eggs or a pancake for breakfast (great pancake) and felt very at home and taken care of at El Albergue Ollantaytambo. As in the title, best place we stayed at in all of the Sacred Valley!

Child friendly, beautiful, terrific staff, excellent location. Just don't stay in room #3, (directly above the trains, was fun for one night, however)

Room Tip: Ask for a garden room, beautiful! Avoid room #3, trains below, old room.

We stayed here for two nights on our way to Machu Picchu. This lovely hotel is on the train line to get to Aguas Calientes and makes a nice place to stopover coming from Cuzco. The inn is in the old train station right on the railway platform. There are few trains so it is not overly noisy,

We had a room on the ground floor at the back. The room was large and airy, an oasis of quiet and had a nice view of the lawn and cultivated garden with the distant mountains in the background. The bedding was a superior quality.- I wish I could find their duvet and pillows to buy for my bedroom at home - and overall the room was functional, clean and pretty. Beware that the hot water coming out of the bath tap can be very hot.

Breakfast is included and offered a choice of items. The restaurant rather looks like a pub with a rustic feel. While we had dinner, a blind harpist played traditional music. The food was good for both breakfast and supper although a little pricey for supper by Peru standards. There is also another sitting room near the entrance for just having a drink or playing a boardgame that has Wifi in it. Wifi didn't work in the hotel bedroom. The inn offers a happy hour.

Overall, we were charmed by the hotel and glad to find an establishment of such high standards in this area. If I were going back this way, I'd stay here again.

By the way, the village has a number of other restaurants to choose from and adjoining street has vendors with their wares and food options also. There is no TV in the rooms.
