“An Incan Ruins Site Only Visited from the Inca Trail”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2011

Not to be confused with the ruins site of the same name that you see from the Salkantay Alternative Trek, Llaqtapata (also Llactapata) is one of the ruins sites you pass while walking the Classic Inca Trail. You see the site on the first day of the hike, well below the trail. Not many hikers venture down there because everyone is anxious to get going after standing in the long entry lines, and everyone knows they'll see plenty of more Inca Ruins.

The ruins is located at 9,318 feet, which is why it is called "High Town" in Quechua

The main feature of this Inca site is its agricultural terraces.
