“Tranquil Retreat in Lima”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

This hotel is located in the quiet residential suburb of Isidro rather than the more active Miraflores. This provides the hotel with a tranquil air which permeates all the public areas and rooms. The hotel is lrge and airy with the rooms similar in nature. The bathroom has a good sized bath and a spearate walk in shower. Amenities are plentiful. Breakfast (incuded) is excellent with a choice of inside or outside dining. Our waiter was very solicitous without seeming at all overanxious. he pressed coco tea sachets upon us as we were about to go to high altitude. The bed is overlarge with good linens.

There is a free shoeshine service which incorporates the old-fashioned method of sitting at a stand with someone polishing. Internet access is free at the business centre, which is really a smallish alcove close to the reception area. Definitely a plce to relax away from any frentic pace.

Large rooms, impressive facade but noisy and very unfriendly service.
It took 20 mins to be served as residents in the dining room while the ladies of lima lunched.
the swimming pool(if it can be described as such - more of a teaspoon of water) is not sited with a sun terrace which catches any rays.. not clever when it is in the 90s.
The fixtures in our room needed maintenance every day and the birds in the trees outside were noisier than the M25 and no alternative/assistance available.
Expensive and disappointing option with the Libertador next door

Room Tip: don't accept a room at the front at all .. traffic or birds will get you !

This historic property has been refurbished recently but still retains its original grandeur. The rooms are huge, with equally large and luxurious marble bathrooms - separate tub and shower, double sinks, etc.

The bar is "old world" grand with outstanding Pisco Sours.

Wish we could have spent every night of our trip here.

Room Tip: There probably isn't a bad room in this grand old hotel. Perhaps ask for an upper floor?

This was a great experience from the moment I arrived. A bell hop, a doorman, and a concierge (3 people) to meet me at the entrance.

Reception was friendly and wonderful. The hotel itself was old-world luxurious. The rooms are spacious, and this is 5 star all the way.

The only gray area for me was the staff in the "English Pub" in the hotel. Bartender= not friendly. hostess/server= not friendly. (I did see the bartender drop a lime on the floor for someone's drink and pick it off the floor and still put it right in the drink. No kidding.)

This hotel, other than the pub, was a dream, and I would recommend it to anyone. (And if you want to play golf at the associated golf club, it will cost you about $150 for a game for hotel guests.)
