This hostel is great!! My husband and myself felt very safe here. The rooms were adequate (especially for the great price, ~55 soles for a double), clean beds, clean bathrooms, secure, and very friendly staff. We stayed here (based on a reference from our friend who lives in Iquitos) both on our way out to our friends village up the river and upon our return. The beds were comfortable and all though the hot water wasn't "american" standard hot, it was warm... but I turned off the hot water, the cool showers are lovely! They provided towels for us, but you need to bring your own toiletries. The room had a table with four chairs, two beds that were pushed together(typical in foriegn countries I have visited), a tv (although we never turned it on), an alarm clark, and two locks on the door. I don't beleive there was AC, but by the time I had returned from the jungle I thought it was cool and I was very comfortable sleeping. The front door is guarded by a front desk representative, and to enter the hostel they must unlock the door for you. They also hold your key for you, which is nice, so I don't lose it. When we were checking out, our flight was not leaving until that evening and they let us store our luggage until the late afternoon. They staff was very friendly, some spoke english (my husband speaks spanish, so they mostly talked to him, but a few of the employees were happy to practice their english with me). They also provide internet service in the courtyard, which is nice to touch base with friends and family. I always felt welcomed and would highly recommend this hostel. My husband and I will be using this hostel for our business clients, as the location is great as well as the service and cleanliness.

I found the La Casona, which is a hostal, after going to another highly recommended hostal in Iquitos that was full. This place was great! Clean, quiet, safe and cheap. A center, open courtyard to the outside, tables, chairs, small communal kitchen and a staff that was friendly, outgoing, helpful and reliable. The owners, Fabiola and Fernando treated me like family as my stay involved coming and going over the course of three months. Rooms have their own bathrooms although most don't have air conditioning or hot water but at $15.00 US a night, it was great! Also, no bugs including mosquitos.
