“Lovely place to stay”
Reviewed 19 May 2012

We stayed at Hostal Amaru for 5 nights and loved it. Great things about the accommodation: extremely clean, beautifully presented, great rooms, good service, good location, helpful management, great price.

In a bit more detail: We stayed in the double deluxe room on the first floor. We were paying 59 dollars a night for this room. The room was a duplex with a second double bed on the first floor. It was very comfortable. Large bathroom, 24 hours hot water, nice TV. The hostal is built in the open courtyard style and looks attractive. The receptionist was always happy to answer any questions we had. The breakfast was one of the best we had in Peru. The location is also great (close to Jack's cafe where we ate a LOT!!). All in all, we are very happy with our experience with Hostal Amaru and can't recommend them enough.

Room Tip: Choose deluxe double room ($59) on first floor.

We stayed here for one night. The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. The beds were comfortable and the location was great. Easy walking to restaurants and shops and the city center. Breakfast food was good and served relatively quickly. They even had TVs in the room, which was a first for us on our trip to Peru. The only negative was no shampoo or conditioner in the room, which I didn't bring as everywhere else we stayed in the same price range had those amenities.

Stayed at amaru for three nights, the 3rd was after the lares trek. All the staff were extremely helpful with excellent English. The hostel (it really isn't a hostel, more of a 3 star hotel) is in a perfect location, just a 5 minute walk from the main square in Cusco. Laundry service was inexpensive and completed same day. We stayed in two different rooms due to doing the lares in between (they looked after our bags as well whilst we were doing the trek) both rooms didn't have great wifi access but I'm scraping to find something wrong with the place, would recommend it to any traveller going through Cusco.

Amaru runs a few hostels in the Cuzco area at different price points, we have stayed at two of them (the cheaper two) on three different occasions. Prices are fair, good hot water, rooms are clean, and staff are very friendly. On one occasion there was a reservation mix-up, but to the staff's credit, they arranged a room for us at one of their other hostels and provided free transport to move us over. No big deal. We were very happy with our stay here and would recommend it.

The hotel is in an old building, rooms are small and basic, breakfast is average, staff is helpful. You need a cab for airport but if you are in good health and don't have too much luggage you can walk easily towards the city center. You will feel safe in the area. It is a good value for Cusco.
